With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.</p>\n<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Supplier Industrialization Engineering team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. The Sr. SIE role requires communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and on-the-spot critical decision-making. The goal: delivering on-time quantities of high-quality component parts into production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Lead the industrialization phase for complex plastic and polymer components. Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Inspection (DFI) reviews to ensure parts are optimized for injection molding, thermoforming, and secondary finishing operations.</li>\n <li>Deep-dive into supplier molding lines, tooling qualification, and CMM/dimensional inspection stations. You are expected to troubleshoot complex process deviations including sink, warpage, short shots, and knit lines.</li>\n <li>Improve existing tools and develop effective and creative approaches to quality management in an extremely intense, fast-paced, and innovative environment.</li>\n <li>Develop, manage, audit, improve, and correct supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing and assembly techniques and quality control processes from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification.</li>\n <li>Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at suppliers and lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality.</li>\n <li>Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between suppliers and Purchasing, Quality, and Design teams.</li>\n <li>Accountable for supplier audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations.</li>\n <li>Collaborate with Design, Quality, and Manufacturing to determine the ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics.</li>\n <li>Accountable for leading, tracking, and improving supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness for new products and design changes.</li>\n <li>Guide suppliers in developing exceptionally robust processes and procedures to promote efficient and seamless production of high-quality products.</li>\n <li>Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for similar potential concerns across manufacturing lines and/or suppliers.</li>\n <li>Provide input on new or alternative materials — including thermoplastics, thermosets, and elastomers — for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Required</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing / Materials Engineering, or evidence of experience and exceptional ability.</li>\n <li>8+ years of experience in industrial, manufacturing, process engineering, and/or supplier quality engineering.</li>\n <li>Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, both domestic and international, with a valid passport or the ability to obtain one.</li>\n <li>A deep understanding of product technologies and manufacturing processes for plastic and polymer commodities, including injection molding, thermoforming, compression molding, overmolding, and finished assemblies.</li>\n <li>Organized with a good balance between delegation and the capacity to deep dive into tactical issues when required.</li>\n <li>In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection.</li>\n <li>Possess demonstrable leadership abilities.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Desired</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Experience in Quality Systems: PPAP/APQP processes.</li>\n <li>Familiarity with aerospace flammability and material standards (e.g., FAR 25.853) for plastic components.</li>\n <li>Experience with composite materials, foam, or overmolded components in aerospace or eVTOL applications.</li>\n <li>Prior experience supporting a Part 21 production approval holder (PAH) or DO-160 qualified component supply chain.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $124,600 - $213,800 per year.
