The Supervisor Operations – Wastewater directs daily operations and maintenance activities to ensure regulatory compliance, reliable system performance, effective customer service response, and adherence to Veolia policies and procedures. This role requires professionalism, independent judgment, and the ability to work effectively at all levels. The incumbent coordinates work planning and scheduling, manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs through the CMMS, supports process control, laboratory/testing coordination, and reporting requirements, oversees contractor work quality and budget compliance, and partners with Engineering and EHSS to drive safety, training, and capital planning initiatives. The position includes participation in the emergency callout rotation and response to after-hours operational events, and the ability to handle emergency situations. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Supervises the workforce engaged in operation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of the wastewater treatment plant and collection system to ensure compliance with Veolia standards and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Oversees day-to-day operation of the Princeton Meadows 1.7 MGD wastewater treatment plant, including monitoring performance, supporting process control, and ensuring appropriate operational coverage. Provides oversight/coordination for treatment processes including biosolids handling programs and associated equipment and vendors/contractors, as applicable to the facility’s program requirements. Provides oversight/coordination for air emissions systems and applicable standards (as applicable to the facility), ensuring operational practices support compliance and proper documentation. Provides oversight of any effluent reuse/reclaimed water operations/programs (as applicable), including monitoring, sampling/recordkeeping coordination, cross-connection controls, customer coordination, and ensuring compliance with all reuse permits, standards, and internal procedures. Plans, coordinates, and schedules maintenance, installation, and repair projects across the wastewater system, including lift stations, appurtenances, and related assets. Assigns work crews to specific jobs based on job requirements, workforce capability, safety considerations, and service priorities; promotes a team atmosphere and effective collaboration. Manages the preventative and corrective maintenance program including workflow execution in the CMMS (assign → dispatch → verify/close), ensuring accurate documentation and completion of work orders. Receives work requests and work orders; determines required labor and materials; coordinates procurement/ordering of parts, chemicals, equipment, and services as needed. Generates and assigns work orders arising from field inspections and/or customer complaints received through the call center or internal stakeholders. Performs and/or directs troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls (including SCADA-related) issues impacting treatment or collection operations, applying strong mechanical and technical aptitude. Ensures proper sampling support and operational data integrity; supports wastewater testing using laboratory standard methods for water and wastewater; reviews logs and operational records for accuracy and completeness; ensures required reporting is completed on time. Prepares reports and correspondence as required by Veolia and regulatory agencies; supports audits, inspections, and corrective action responses as needed. Conducts periodic inspections of work in progress (Veolia crews and contractors) to verify quality, compliance, and alignment with scope and budget; ensures contractors perform within budget expectations. Partners with the Engineering Department to support prioritization and execution of capital projects and system improvements; provides field input, constructability feedback, and operational considerations. Partners with EHSS to conduct periodic safety meetings, tailboards, and training programs; reinforces safe work practices and confirms required PPE and monitoring is used. Monitors safety and jobsite conditions; reports and corrects non-conforming conditions; sets the tone for safety culture and housekeeping standards at the facility and in the field. Monitors and supports achievement of operational KPIs (e.g., compliance, maintenance execution, responsiveness, reliability, safety). Interacts professionally with customers, contractors, vendors, and state/local agencies; supports investigation and resolution of service issues as needed; develops and maintains good working relationships with the public and employees. Ability to shift priorities frequently, organize and prioritize multiple concurrent projects, and effectively perform under pressure to meet operational and compliance deadlines. Participates on cross-functional teams and performs other job-related tasks as required or requested. Will be required to participate in emergencies, respond to callouts, and work extended hours as needed; must be a member of the Princeton Meadows emergency callout rotation. Maintains accurate electronic records and ensures timely submission of required documentation and reports. Manages/monitors inventory (including chemicals and critical spare parts) to ensure adequate supply is maintained and properly stored/handled. Work Environment: Must be able to wear required PPE and safely work around moving equipment, wet/slippery surfaces, chemical storage/handling areas, and wastewater process environments. This position requires participation in an emergency/on-call rotation and may require weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational needs. Education/Experience/Background: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience. Minimum 5 years of experience in wastewater system construction, operations, maintenance, and repair. 2 years supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Complies with all organization safety, compliance, and policy/procedure requirements. Demonstrates safe work practices; participates in safety meetings; promotes continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency. Uses and supports workforce management and technology tools (CMMS, GIS, SCADA, and other Veolia systems) to plan, execute, and document work. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks efficiently; makes sound decisions consistent with established procedures and policies. This is an essential role and must report during inclement weather events, as directed. Computer literacy and ability to learn/use Veolia systems, including: GIS and asset management / CMMS. SCADA monitoring tools (as applicable). Ability to use Chromebook and Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs) as needed for reporting and administration. Must be able to read and write English legibly and perform job-related math/calculations. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: NJDEP S2 and C2 licenses required. S3 and C3 highly preferred; if not held, must attain within 3 years of placement (or per Veolia policy). Valid driver’s license. Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform field and facility inspections requiring standing/walking for extended periods, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, and entering confined spaces as trained/authorized.
