Can assist in the creation of the discipline and organized company structure, and contributed to a culture of excellence, necessary for the development and deployment of the Company’s IMSR plant. Have the specific skillset and experience for the following role: The Safeguards Specialist , reporting to the R&D Director, is primarily responsible for integration and development of nuclear material control and accountability measures into nuclear power plant design. This role focuses on embedding safeguards-by-design principles, ensuring compliance with domestic and international regulations while addressing the unique characteristics of IMSR technology. Other Responsibilities Include: Integrate safeguards features into IMSR design processes, ensuring alignment with DOE, NRC and IAEA requirements while accommodating the unique characteristics of liquid salt fuel systems Collaborate with engineering teams to embed material accountability measures into facility layouts, process flows, and operational procedures without compromising reactor performance and safety Serve as primary liaison with NRC, IAEA, and DOE on safeguards matters during the design phase Develop the regulatory reporting structure and prepare regulatory submissions including Design Information Questionnaires Ensure design compliance with 10 CFR Parts 50, 74 and 75, DOE orders, and IAEA safeguards standards Develop measurement and monitoring protocols for special nuclear materials in molten salt form Design inventory verification procedures and material balance assessment methodologies Define material access areas and containment/surveillance strategies appropriate for liquid fuel systems Specify requirements for non-destructive assay equipment and analytical chemistry capabilities suited to molten salt applications Conduct measurement uncertainty analyses to optimize material tracking accuracy Evaluate emerging technologies for real-time material accountability and process monitoring Support the holistic integration off safety, security and safeguards (3S) within the design and design processes Core Competencies Regulatory knowledge and compliance mindset Systems thinking for design integration Technical communication and stakeholder engagement Innovation in addressing novel safeguards challenges Ethical commitment to nonproliferation objectives Communication Critical Thinking Decision Making Problem Solving Results Orientation Team player with the ability to collaborate and interact with other groups Flexible and adaptable to change Requirements Bachelor’s degree or higher in nuclear engineering, physics, or related technical field Minimum 4 years of experience in nuclear safeguards material accountancy, and reactor safety in research or industrial environments Strong understanding of NRC and IAEA safeguards regulations and their application to advanced reactor designs Experience with statistical analysis Experience with material accounting systems, inventory verification, and measurement uncertainty analysis Familiarity with safeguards equipment and seals Familiarity with non-destructive assay technologies and nuclear material measurement systems Proficiency with simulation and analysis tools for safeguards applications Excellent technical writing skills for regulatory documentation and design reports Experience managing technical projects with competing priorities and deadlines Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with risk-based decision-making skills Background in nuclear nonproliferation or international safeguards implementation Familiarity with advanced monitoring technologies and data analytics applications for safeguards Assets Education in the nuclear field Experience with molten salt reactor technology, other advanced reactor concepts or with material accountancy / safeguards for nonsolid material facilities (e.g., fuel fabrication/processing plants, waste management facilities).
