Description
Conducts post trial investigations to monitor and determine the offenders’ worthiness to be placed in the Alternative Sentencing Program.
Responsibilities
1. Interviews, monitors, and supervises defendants placed on the Alternative Sentencing Program by the Courts.
2. Screens for eligibility using computer searches to obtain current offense information, judicial history, regional warrants, TCIC/NCIC warrant information, Texas driver’s license history and status, and personal information such as place of residence and employment. Makes collateral contacts as needed to verify defendant’s information.
3. Monitors and documents defendants’ activities through GPS tracking, vehicle interlock, SCRAM, etc., and monitoring reports. Conducts employment verification and maintains regular contact with defendants based upon assigned risk levels, and ensures all conditions of release are met. Processes documents for those determined eligible, and maintains case files on each defendant by documenting chronological record of the defendant’s activities, and maintaining an accurate and current work schedule.
4. Maintains an open line of communication with the Courts in reference to progress and conduct of the defendants through reports on compliance with alternative conditions for the Courts consideration.
5. Refers persons released to appropriate support services (mental health, substance abuse, housing, etc.) as indicated and/or required by conditions of release.
6. Serves as liaison with local law enforcement, the public, and other community agencies; responds to inquiries for information and assistance from the community-at-large, law enforcement, and other requesting parties and entities.
7. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Experience and Training:
Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, social services, public administration or related field. Two (2) year work related experience.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrate effective interviewing skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, and the general public. Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with good driving record. Must pass an extensive background investigation. Mandatory drug testing prior to employment.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Standard Office Environment.
