Positions Available: 1 Duration: September 2026 - May 2027 Location:  Onsite (3 days per week) Closing Date:  Friday, June 19 at 5:00 p.m. Friends of Ruby Friends of Ruby is dedicated to the journey and well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth (aged 16-29) through mental health services, social services, and housing. Our organization offers Youth Mental Health services, a Youth Drop-In Centre, and a Transitional Home. The Centre provides access to barrier-free counselling and therapeutic groups, case management, and a drop-in space with hot meals, community, and comprehensive programming. The Home provides transitional and emergency housing, mental health support, and life-skills development to assist youth in achieving independent living. Friends of Ruby recognizes that a diverse workforce is essential to accomplishing our mission. Our goal is to attract and develop incredibly talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, allowing us to benefit from a wide variety of experiences and perspectives. Position Summary As a Student Case Manager in Friends of Ruby's Housing Program, you play a vital role in delivering intensive case management services to high-risk 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, many of whom may be experiencing mental illness, and who reside in our supportive housing program. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Housing or their designate, your responsibilities encompass three main areas: Case Management, Community Relations, and Administrative Duties. Duties and Responsibilities Case Management: Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to identify participant needs. Collaborate on the development and revision of care plans, utilizing a strengths-based and client-centered approach. Orientation to program and community. Address housing, shelter, employment, education, mental health, legal/financial assistance, and other community needs. Facilitate life-skills workshops and groups on housing, employment, and system navigation. Provision of onsite and community-based services and interventions, including supporting ADLs, maintaining structured daytime activities, social recreational programming, psychoeducation, and residential duties. Maintain trusting, respectful, and collaborative working relationships with residents and colleagues. Conduct on-going risk assessment/management. Crisis prevention and intervention, monitoring, evaluation, and follow-up. Develop participant discharge plans addressing ongoing support needs. Housing Support: Collect documentation required for a standard rental application. Guide participants through their Access-to-Housing and/or Access Point application. Complete rental applications with participants. Schedule viewings and accompany participants. Schedule lease signing and accompany participants. Complete move-in report. Community Relations: Lead and participate in consultation services and case conferences. Connect with community resources, peer support, and professional services. Attending external meetings and information sessions, contributing insights to the team. Research and connect youth to community resources addressing 2SLGBTQIA+ needs. Coordinate internal and external services, advocating for participants. Administrative: Maintain accurate clinical records and statistical information. Prepare metrics reports as requested. Distribute bus tickets and petty cash according to agency policies. Adjust work hours to meet participant needs. Provide operational support, including conflict resolution and reception duties. Qualifications Currently enrolled in a University or College program and actively working towards a social work degree or social service worker diploma Experience in specialized case work/management positions and in mental health, supportive housing, crisis management environments is preferred. Experience in the not-for-profit, 2SLGBTQIA+ community, or social justice sectors is preferred. Understanding of housing resources and rights, Toronto's social housing programs. Familiarity with mental health, housing, case management standards and legal frameworks. Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, anti-oppression, housing first approach, harm reduction approach and trauma-informed care. A champion for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & ARAO, including but not limited to: Demonstrated ability to navigate and communicate effectively in a diverse range of environments, cultures, and people; understanding of the broader social and cultural contexts impacting DEI efforts; understanding of equity issues and a commitment to promoting fairness and equality; excellent communication skills with an emphasis on inclusive language.
