LITTLE RIVER BAND OF OTTAWA INDIANS POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Victim Advocate – Family Services - Full Time - 100% Grant Funded Pay Grade: NE10 Status: Non-Exempt/Bi-weekly pay Background Check: Extensive Hiring Range - $19.54 - $24.33 - $28.38 - Commensurate with Verified Qualifications                 Indian Preference applies in accordance with Ordinance #15-600-02 Summary: The primary function of a victim advocate is to provide culturally competent direct services to Native and non-Native victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, teen dating violence, human trafficking, and child sexual assault.  Pursuant to funding provided by federal grant award(s).  This position will provide support, advocacy, referral, safety planning, crisis intervention, judicial advocacy, and other identifying needs.  The advocate works collaboratively with other Native and non-Native domestic violence and sexual assault agencies to ensure seamless response to survivors’ needs. Employment Qualifications: Minimum Necessary Qualifications Associate’s degree in human services, social services. criminal justice, or related fields; equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered; and Minimum of one year experience providing victim advocacy, direct services, or crisis intervention/mental health services; and The possession of a valid Driver’s License with the ability to be insured under the Tribe’s insurance policy. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide cultural advocacy and direct services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, teen dating violence, human trafficking, and child sexual assault and their families. Assist or accompany survivors when requested by public safety at crime scenes, medical facilities, or other safe locations. Provide support, referrals, and information related to emergency needs, legal representation, crime victim’s rights, and victim compensation information and applications. Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed. Complete intake forms, document services and referrals, and conduct thorough case management on all cases. Understand and implement the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) confidentiality provisions. At the survivor’s request and consent, work closely and interact with tribal, state, and/or federal law enforcement, prosecutors, criminal investigators, services providers, governmental agencies, and the public, to ensure the survivor’s needs are addressed. Willing to meet with survivors at safe locations and/or transport survivors to court or support services agencies, or medical appointments. Maintain good working relationships with tribal and community resource agencies. Will respond to cases of domestic violence or sexual assault during and/or after business hours. Attend monthly collaborative meetings with Native and non-Native domestic violence and sexual assault program providers. Attend program awareness events that promote the program cultural services. Participate in resource source table events, expos, or any other outreach/awareness community event. Participate and be willing to attend trainings that are grant approved and specific to your job role. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable tribal, state, or federal laws and procedures. All other position related duties as assigned by supervisor and/or department director and/or Executive Lead Other Skills and Abilities During the course of employment, the employee will consistently utilize and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to build rapport and trust with clients, strong organizational skills, strong presentation skills, strong project management skills, strong reasoning and judgment skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, a heightened attention to detail and accuracy, the ability to work cooperatively with other departments, the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, ability to manage a caseload and a commitment to confidentiality. Supervisory Responsibilities None Physical Demands Sitting for long periods of time, frequent walking, and occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves manual dexterity to operate office equipment and while keyboarding. An employee will need normal or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing and will carry work-related materials up to fifty (50) pounds.  The employee may be required to provide service in home settings, which may require climbing of stairs and driving a motor vehicle for transportation. Working Environment Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The employee’s work schedule may frequently need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend meetings or trainings .
