POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Project Manager this position oversees the Owner’s supervision of the shipyard and their contractors / suppliers as it relates to the ship’s interiors, accommodation, design, technical equipment, technical hotel, installation, and commissioning to ensure the Yard supplies in a timely, quality-oriented manner. He /She is to take upon themself a role to provide technical and operational expertise in architectural design, guidance, and overall assistance to the Yard always and when so needed to ensure full compliance with the Shipbuilding Contract, Vessel specifications and appendices, approved drawings and equipment specifications, relevant Rules and Regulations set out by the Maritime authorities and regulatory bodies. Continuous communication with Architects, suppliers, Consultants, Class representatives and other regulatory bodies when so needed.
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Architectural designer primarily working with the following areas:
Guest public areas and accommodation areas
Outdoor decks design and installation including resin flooring
Crew public areas, accommodation areas, and offices
‘Back of House’ installations and support for associated equipment and systems impacting the guest experience
Catering equipment, design assistance, installation, inspections and commissioning
Store, lockers, corridors, and all technical spaces on BOH areas
Architectural lighting design integration
Entertainment, sound, video, and show lighting system integration
Artwork, signage, and graphics integration
Glazing design assistance, installation, commissioning including motorized systems
Coordination on site and liaison with Owner’s IT department for IT, CCTV and S&L components which influence design or guest experience
Owner supply relevant to Public and Crew areas control and process monitoring when needed
Assisting the Team with Operational Sponsors and Owner’s design and consulting companies to ensure design intent meets Brand and project brief expectations
Maintains overall picture when it comes to a cohesive, upscale design and guest experience
Assisting for the review, commenting and preparing of approval correspondence for vessel plans, drawings, samples, mockups, makers specification submitted by the Yard is attended to on time
Assisting with constant and accurate monitoring and revising the drawing process covering all building process till the delivery of the Ship and commissioning, actively participating in the plan approval process
Attending at the daily inspections, commissioning activities or as directed related but not limited to the above-mentioned processes and systems
Support the technical definition, design integration, revision process if any, and the installation on board of the Owner supplied items and systems relevant to Public and Crew Areas
Assist for structuring the Inventory control system software (FF&E equipment function hierarchy, parts, and planned maintenance routines)
Attend FATs and outside the Yard project activities
Attend design meetings with Yard /Classification Society/ Subcontractors
Assist in preparing the ship for operation by participating in the making of design and maintenance related standards & procedures in compliance with company requirements
Support the Site Team and the Project Director/Manager on all design related matters and make recommendations for activities within his /her responsibility in order to achieve highest
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalency from a recognized institution of higher education is required in Interior Design, Architecture preferred. Master’s degree a plus.
Proficiency in understanding of Classification rules & regulation, USPH and relevant regulations applicable the vessel newbuilding and operations requirements.
Strong skills to read, review and comment detailed design, architectural documentation, and
Minimum 5 years design industry experience
Minimum 2 years shore side as Superintendent or other supervisory roles from vessel newbuilding and operations (Cruise).
Minimum 5 years involvement in large scale projects, cruise ship new build or refurbishment design experience preferred.
Good understanding of ship’s hotel operation and any associated technical systems facing
Be able to read, write and speak fluently in English (business and technical). English language required at all times while on duty. Proficiency in Italian language a plus.
FUNCTIONAL EXPERTISE
Proficient skills using AutoCAD, Photoshop, Sketchup, Microsoft Office line of products (mainly Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word) and planned maintenance systems.
Be able to predict needs and work
Strong teamwork skills to develop reporting and symbiotic relationships within the Site Team, with other departments within the Owner’s structure, Owner’s consultants & suppliers, and externally to the shipyard and their suppliers / subcontractors.
Strong organizational and analytic
Resilient to coping with conflicting demands, able to prioritize duties and work under
Timely, accurate, efficient and quality reporting on project progress and or
Great multi-tasking
Ability to manage change effectively, prompt follow up and implementing new
Able to work in a multicultural working environment. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in a matrixed working environment dealing simultaneously with several project teams across the globe.
Superior ability and oversight to proactively identify problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement necessary solutions.
Drive and always promote with the Yard, Contractors and any stake holders associated with the project to deliver highest quality standards conform or above with the Shipbuilding contract, premium market cruise standard and project manifesto.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Good physical condition, able to work in a classic shipbuilding construction
Be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Be able to raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position-to-position.
