Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will be leading a team of drill & blast engineers as well as technicians in delivering pattern design, blast timing, drill planning, QAQC, and blast optimsation. You will work cross-departmentally with operations, maintenance, process plant and other functions to ensure the plan is communicated and executed effectively. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
Ensure compliance with HSSE policies, standards and procedures, ensuring team members are fully trained and able to perform their duties safely;
Develop and support the execution of strategic monthly and quarterly drills plans and designs;
Work in collaboration with all site functions to determine plan, input parameters and assumptions, ensuring all design work (pit slopes, dumps, stockpiles, roads, drill and blast) comply to AE standards and legislative requirements;
Lead QAQC and blast optimsation initiative to increase mine production efficiencies and drive cost effective operational improvements;
Liaise with mine operations to ensure practicality of designs; visit project and operation areas to ascertain designs and plans are properly implemented and manage any changes;
Design and execute void collapse blasting strategies for historic underground workings within the Detour pit, ensuring safe, controlled ground conditions;
Lead void management for historic underground workings, including planning and executing cavity monitoring surveys, drilling probe holes, and interpreting legacy underground designs to support safe and efficient pit operations;
Provide coaching and mentoring to staff and coordinate staff assignments and workloads;
Lead positive changes to ensure systems, planning and processes are aligned with internal metrics and deliverables, including the identification of business improvement opportunities;
Contribute to the development of mine engineering procedures related to safety, costs, production, maintenance and budgeting.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent, with eligibility for P.Eng registration in Ontario or other Canadian jurisdiction;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to mentor junior engineers and work collaboratively across functions;
Experience with drill fleet management systems (e.g., Surface Manager) and operational reporting tools (e.g. PowerBI) is considered a strong asset;
Produce Drill & Blast designs for mine operations including hole layout, explosive loading instructions, stemming/decking requirements, and blast timing;
Mentor other engineers and technicians on industry standard best practices for drill and blast designs;
High attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance in plan execution;
Strong ability to assess operational constraints and translate them into practical, optimized designs and plans that enhance efficiency and cost control;
Demonstrated success in preparing and executing monthly and quarterly mine plans and coordinating cross-departmental alignment;
Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Vulcan, MineSight, Deswik, Alastri) and in interpreting and using geological, survey, and geotechnical data for practical design and scheduling.
Your Work Schedule:
7/7 or 14/14 schedule at our Detour Lake mine site;
Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada
