6-8 Media Arts Teacher (Part-time)

Reporting to the HoLMS/Director, the Media Arts Teacher for Digital Content Creation is responsible for designing and delivering an engaging, project-based curriculum for students in grades 6 through 8. This role guides students in exploring the dynamic world of media arts through short-form video production, photography, and graphic design, while fostering critical media literacy and creative expression using industry-relevant digital tools. The Visual & Performing Arts Department at Head-Royce endeavors to create a student-centered program that teaches the skills and language of the arts through meaningful, experiential, project-based learning. Across the visual and performing arts, students are engaged in creative pursuits with an emphasis on process, connection to our community, and student choice and ownership. Develop and maintain a structured project-based curriculum aligned with school-wide learning outcomes and media arts standards. Foster media literacy by helping students critically analyze and interpret today's media landscape, including how digital art reflects and shapes culture. Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and maintain accurate records of student progress and grades. Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular projects and school-wide events involving digital media. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and technology-rich classroom environment conducive to creative exploration. Job Specifications Ability to teach project-based, student-centered lessons in a middle school environment. Proficiency with digital content creation tools: WeVideo, Canva, and Adobe Lightroom (or equivalent). Familiarity with current media arts pedagogy, including storytelling, design thinking, and visual communication. Capacity to differentiate instruction to support diverse learners across grades 6 through 8 Strong organizational skills to manage multiple ongoing student projects and a digital portfolio system. Other Duties Participate in school-wide professional development, staff meetings, and committee work as assigned. Maintain and manage classroom technology equipment and report issues to the technology coordinator. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and course expectations. Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for 3-4 nights (additional stipend paid) Required Skills Proficiency in industry-standard digital art tools. Demonstrated experience with digital content creation in video, photography, and/or graphic design Ability to provide Livescan fingerprint clearance, SB848 and TB clearance prior to employment.
