Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.<br><br>The Mental Health Therapist will:<ul><li>Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for assigned children and youth.</li><li>Develop individualized and family treatment plans in conjunction with the primary team.</li><li>Formulate diagnoses, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.</li><li>Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals, utilizing a variety of developmentally-appropriate treatment approaches.</li><li>Facilitate Parent Support Groups and Multi-Family Therapy Groups that are psycho-educational and/or psychodynamic in context, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities.</li><li>Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of provisional program based operations improvement and evaluation.</li><li>Build specialized parenting skills for caregivers caring for children with exceptional needs.</li><li>Complete written discharge summaries to referring Therapist and Psychiatrist after patient discharge.</li><li>Carry out case management functions including convening case conferences, and liaising with community services and other professionals involved with the adolescent and family.</li></ul><br><strong>Qualifications</strong><ul><li>Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.</li><li>Active registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act. </li><li>A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.</li><li>Knowledge and experience in supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.</li><li>Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: EMDR, ART, sensory motor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, SMART, DBT/CBT and ARC.</li><li>Training and experience in play therapy is considered an asset.</li><li>Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>Valid Class 5 operator’s license and access to a vehicle. </li></ul> <div><strong>Additional Knowledge Skills and Abilities</strong></div><ul><li>Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the impact of trauma and/or mental illness child development and children’s health and well being.</li><li>Knowledge and experience in working with caregivers with significant familial intergenerational trauma and/or caregivers with a range of attachment styles.</li><li>Training and experience in sensory and somatic modalities is considered an asset (e.g., Sensory Motor Arousal and Regulation Therapy).</li><li>Training and experience in bilateral stimulation based trauma processing(e.g., Accelerated Resolution Therapy or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is considered an asset.</li><li>Training and experience in attachment focused play-based interventions (e.g., Theraplay) or other play-based intervention and modalities are considered an asset.</li><li>Experience and training in working with blended, adoptive, foster and kinship families an asset.<br> </li></ul><strong>Conditions of Employment</strong><ul><li>A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check.
