Overview Gap Year Doctors Assistant - Stony Brook Urology, UFPC Location: Lake Grove, NY Schedule: Part time Days/Hours: Tues thru Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm Pay: $20.00 Our compensation philosophy aims to provide marketable compensation programs and to compensate employees based on relevant experience and education. Individual compensation discussions begin during the hiring process and may occur during job review and promotional opportunities. Salaries vary depending on experience, education and current market for the position. Human Resources determines the external and internal equitable salary for each employee. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents Stony Brook CPMP’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting Responsibilities SUMMARY: This program is an excellent opportunity for future medical students to gain hands-on clinical experience in a healthcare setting. Participants will work alongside healthcare professionals, assisting with patient care and administrative tasks, and developing a deeper understanding of clinical workflows and patient interactions Job Duties & Essential Functions: Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed provider including taking and recording patient vital signs, medical histories, personal and social histories, pain and fall risk assessment and reason for visit and enters information into the EMR in a timely manner. Performs uroflow testing and operates ultrasound for bladder residual volume testing. Assists physician with ultrasound testing. Collects and prepares lab specimens. Maintain clean and organized examination rooms, ensuring all supplies are restocked. Provide patient education on prescribed treatments, medication instructions, and preventative care and discharge summary. Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: Patient medical history and physical exam, Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants. Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits. Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up. Identify mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. All addenda must be signed off by a physician.• Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential. Attend trainings on diverse subjects such as information technology, legal, HIPAA and regulatory compliance, billing and coding. Quickly assimilate new knowledge into processes and procedures. Proofread and edit all the physician's medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Participate in regular team meetings, training sessions, and mentoring activities designed to prepare participants for medical school Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education & Qualifications: Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in a clinical setting. Require Degree – Bachelor's degree Preferred Skills: Experience with EMR systems or clinical workflows Previous experience in a healthcare or volunteer setting Pre-med required coursework, one year Biology w/ lab, one year of General Chemistry w/ lab, one year of Organic Chemistry w/ lab, one semester of Biochemistry, one year of Physics w/ lab, one year of English Physical Demands: Physical ability to move 50 lbs. or more. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is active and requires the employee to constantly move about in the office to assist patients, staff and medical providers. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management. The responsibilities and tasks outlined in this job description are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of CPMP. StaffCo is a Professional Employer Organization, commonly referred to as a PEO, duly organized and registered under the New York Professional Employer Organization law.
