Description
The Manager of Trade Compliance will have an opportunity to contribute to building At Home's Global Trade Compliance program from the ground up. To succeed in this role, the individual must act independently with the following behaviors guiding their work: act with urgency, obsess over learning, behave like an owner, and push past possible. The individual will handle a growing variety of operational responsibilities as well as support strategic initiatives, system implementations, process optimization, and integration of trade compliance requirements into other departments’ processes. The individual will be tasked with raising awareness about trade compliance, delivering training, and implementing internal controls to ensure compliance with US (CBP), USDA, FDA, and other governmental agencies. The focus of this position will be to support US operations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities Lead the trade compliance team to ensure importing activities comply with governmental laws and regulations as well as technical direction and guidance. Ensure that imports are performed to applicable regulations, improves processes; work with the team to minimize compliance risks. Act as subject matter expert to provide support related to Country-of-Origin determination, HS code classification, Free Trade Agreement analysis and eligibility. Ensure compliance with all CTPAT related initiatives for At Home. Develop and monitor service provider key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide performance reports. Identify ways to continuously improve systems, processes and procedures to promote efficiencies and reduce costs. Develop, maintain and update trade compliance Standard Operating Procedures for the department. Work cross-functionally with other global and regional teams as necessary to carry out trade compliance goals and assignments. Create and maintain compliance manuals, systems, and procedures. Regularly monitor global trade compliance news and regulation changes to ensure continued compliance. Ensure internal systems and processes comply with regulatory changes. Build a trusted partnership with management to advise and make recommendations for our technical and business direction including future state systems and partners to support Global Customs compliance. Performs periodic analytical reviews of internal team processes and data to ensure both efficiency and accuracy. Ensure desktop procedures are maintained to reflect current process. Mentor and manage the career development of the global customs & trade compliance Team Members. Collaborate with the Government Relations function to represent and advocate interests regarding public policy pertaining to import, export, and transportation strategies. Be accountable for on-time customs related licensing/registrations/etc. Draft talking points, one-pagers, and presentations to disseminate regulatory related information for leadership awareness and action. Ensure post-entry audits are conducted within established audit compliance requirements.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in trade compliance or a related discipline At least 7 years of relevant experience in trade compliance Extensive knowledge of U.S. trade laws and regulations, CTPAT, WRO and other sanctions related matters Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills Customs Broker License (preferred) Previous experience managing in a major retail chain environment (preferred) Experience working with CBP, OFAC and other government agencies Previous experience with trade compliance screening tools to include solution implementation Must have at least 3 years of experience leading, developing and motivating a team Availability to work flexible, full-time schedule; approximately 40-50 hours/week with minimal travel required Hybrid working model (Mon/Fri remote and Tues-Thurs in office)
