Description

Summary Harris-Stowe State University invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Basketball Coach. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all aspects of the Women’s Basketball program, including the recruitment, conditioning, training, and performance of student-athletes, as well as fiscal and operational program management. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach reports directly to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. This is a professional head coaching position that requires leadership in all areas of the program and strict adherence to the policies, rules, and regulations of the NAIA, the American Midwest Conference, and Harris-Stowe State University. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for managing all operational, fiscal, fundraising, and administrative activities associated with the Women’s Basketball program, while also fostering the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes. The position provides direct supervision to a part-time Assistant Coach and is responsible for leading the team in achieving competitive success while promoting a positive and inclusive team culture. Principal Duties/Responsibilities Manage all operational, fiscal, fundraising, and administrative activities for the Women’s Basketball program. Provide leadership for the overall planning, organization, and execution of the intercollegiate Women’s Basketball program. Recruit prospective student-athletes and ensure the timely submission of academic records and required materials for admission. Monitor the academic progress, eligibility, and overall status of student-athletes. Foster discipline, accountability, and appropriate conduct among student-athletes in a manner that supports the image and reputation of the athletics program and the University. Plan and conduct coaching sessions, practices, and team activities in accordance with NAIA, American Midwest Conference, and University regulations. Coach student-athletes individually and in team settings, providing instruction in skills development, game techniques, and performance improvement. Develop and implement game strategies, position assignments, and competitive plans for team success. Promote academic achievement and support the retention, persistence, and graduation of Women’s Basketball student-athletes. Represent and promote the Women’s Basketball program and Harris-Stowe State University through community engagement, public speaking, fundraising, marketing, and alumni relations. Demonstrate integrity, high ethical standards, and a strong commitment to compliance with NAIA, conference, University, and departmental policies, while prioritizing student-athlete academic and personal success. Supervise and provide leadership to assistant coaching staff and other program personnel as assigned. Attend monthly athletics department staff meetings and participate in departmental initiatives and professional development activities as required. Education & Experience Requirements Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree is required; Masters preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of collegiate coaching experience and/or five (5) years of head coaching experience at the high school level along with collegiate coaching experience. Applicants should possess demonstrated experience in recruiting, coaching techniques and skill development, camp coordination and facilitation, community engagement, team building, and fundraising. Candidates must also have the ability to drive vans for team travel. Experience with NAIA eligibility and compliance is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with the NAIA and HBCU environment. Other Required Skills & Abilities Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly. Must have the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
