Description
Public Safety Specialist
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade(s): 8/9 ($27.51+ DOE)
Purpose: The Public Safety Specialist supports the OVW Rural Domestic Violence Project by coordinating outreach, prevention education, and public safety collaboration efforts across rural communities. The position assists with survivor outreach and safety planning, supports trauma-informed public safety training, and helps coordinate regional efforts to address domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.
This role contributes to community safety initiatives through coordination with law enforcement, tribal courts, schools, and community partners while supporting culturally responsive services for rural and tribal communities. The position also supports development of the Regional Response Guide and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Community Response Plan to strengthen coordinated regional response efforts. Additionally, this role provides support for the Public Safety Division’s Tribal Emergency Operations Center (TEOC) Incident Command System (ICS) training and emergency preparedness efforts, contributing to overall program efficiency and readiness.
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Provide outreach and safety planning support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking
• Coordinate youth prevention education sessions in rural communities using culturally rooted materials
• Support planning and coordination of trauma-informed training for public safety officers and partner agencies
• Assist with development and distribution of outreach materials, safety toolkits, and educational resources
• Support development of the Regional Response Guide and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) Community Response Plan
• Organize and participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and Coordinated Community Response (CCR) meetings
• Track project activities and assist with documentation and reporting required by the Office on Violence Against Women
• Maintain strict confidentiality and survivor-centered practices
• Collaborate with tribal, community, and public safety partners to improve coordinated responses
• Support TEOC ICS training and emergency preparedness efforts, ensuring operational readiness in coordination with public safety initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned
