Professor of Small Animal Veterinary Internal Medicine (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine The Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications and nominations for a faculty position as a Professor of Small Animal Veterinary Internal Medicine (non- tenure track; Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor). We are seeking a dynamic faculty committed to advancing excellence in veterinary education, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting a fun, immersive learning environment for academic success among our students. Furthermore, we are creating an inspired academic community dedicated to ensuring our graduates will approach veterinary internal medicine with confidence, curiosity, and capability. At Lyon, you will work in a culture that values creativity, perseverance, and practical problem solving. Primary responsibilities include teaching, service, and scholarly activities. Teaching activities are primarily associated with internal medicine principles and clinical application. Service activities vary with individual preferences and program needs. Scholarly activities may include research, continuing education, and publications relevant to the profession and/or veterinary internal medicine, and innovations in veterinary education and training. Interprofessional research addressing One Health challenges is also encouraged. A typical time assignment is 75% teaching, 20% scholarly activities, and 5% service. Alternative hiring models including part time, non-benefit eligible positions will be considered. Duties and Responsibilities of the Position: Provide innovative education, mentorship, and guidance to all students in a variety of settings, including the classroom, laboratory, simulation center, and Cabot Animal Support Services in the discipline of veterinary internal medicine. ● Play a critical role in promoting the health and welfare of animals within a shelter environment, including high-quality medical care to small animals, support of population management, promotion of public health, and collaboration within the shelter program. ● Participate in student assessment, feedback, and remediation to ensure that students meet LCSVM’s high academic standards in the areas of knowledge, skills, and abilities. ● Participate in curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and enhancement. ● Provide service to Lyon College and the greater community by serving on committees, providing leadership, participating in community outreach events, and working with professional organizations and groups. ● Maintain discipline and teaching expertise through continuing professional education. ● Engage in scholarly activity, including research, authorship, presentations at conferences, innovation, entrepreneurship, and mentorship of students in their scholarly activities. ● Opportunities exist to provide medical services to partners of the veterinary school, such as private practices. For all positions: ● Promote the mission of LCSVM to all faculty, staff, students, and to the local, state, national, and international communities, as appropriate. ● Contribute to a culture of academic creativity, innovation, and collaboration that fosters student success. ● Promote effective, collaborative, inclusive working relationships among faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders. ● Advance the principles of andragogy and pedagogy throughout LCSVM. ● Perform other duties as assigned. ● Comply with all policies and standards. Rank: ● Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor depending upon qualifications and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ● Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the delivery of veterinary/medical education, including an understanding of the principles of andragogy and pedagogy and their application in a professional curriculum. ● Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the area of expertise. ● Demonstrated record of advancing innovation and creativity in learning and scholarly pursuits. ● Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. ● Record of successfully contributing to collaborative teams. ● Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented success. Qualifications: Required: ● DVM or equivalent degree ● Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, or another relevant ABVS specialty (such as ABVP), or progress towards specialty. certification. Preferred: ● Master’s degree and/or doctoral degree ● Prior experience teaching within a veterinary or medical school. ● Demonstrated leadership experience in educational and/or professional settings. ● Demonstrated scholarly activities in education, innovations, entrepreneurship, and/or medical research. This position will be based at the new Lyon College School of Veterinary Medicine in Cabot, Arkansas. The LCSVM is co-located with Cabot Animal Support Services (CASS). CASS is a local, state, and national model for shelter medicine, animal welfare, community relations, and education. As a private institution, Lyon College offers advantages of nimbleness in encouraging innovations. The goal is to attract and retain a like-minded faculty of creative, forward thinkers who are inspired to innovate and make teaching and learning fun.
