    "description": "<p>Department: Public Works  </p>\n<p>Reports To: Street Foreman  </p>\n<p>FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt</p>\n<p>Effective Date: 05/2024</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">GENERAL PURPOSE:</span></p>\n<p>Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of routine semi-skilled labor associated with street maintenance construction tasks that includes the operation of various vehicles and power equipment in the maintenance and repair of City streets.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</span></p>\n<p>The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the individual in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.  Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties as assigned.</p>\n<ul>\n<li><br>Performs asphalt repairs and maintenance; repairs bad sections of asphalt including milling, hauling off materials removed, and replacing failed base sections; lays surface mix asphalt using a bobcat, shovels, roller, and /or lay down machine; flags traffic; patches potholes; and crack seals using squeegees and the crack sealing machine.</li>\n<li><br>Performs concrete related work including replacing sidewalks, curbs, driveway approaches as needed; tears out sections to be replaced using bobcat or backhoe; hauls materials away; sets up concrete forms and level; fills the location with rock, pours concrete, and finishes using various hand tools; removes forms and backfill as necessary once concrete has cured.</li>\n<li><br>Operates various pieces of equipment including skid steer with various attachments, asphalt roller, backhoe, mowers, sweeper, mo-trim tractor, asphalt paver and loader.</li>\n<li><br>Maintains storm drains; cleans out and grades ditches using appropriate equipment; lays rip-rap in ditches and on creek banks; cleans storm drains using shovels and picks; repairs and replaces culvert pipes and storm drains as needed and backfills around storm boxes and culvert pipes.</li>\n<li><br>Assists the Sign Maintenance Technician with sign maintenance and painting of crosswalks and stop bars; and assists with any emergencies as needed.</li>\n<li><br>Supports the relationship between the City of Belton and the constituent population by providing excellent customer service; promotes the City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and City information; and performs related duties as required or assigned.</li>\n<li><br>Ensures that job duties are completed in strict adherence to established safe work practices.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><br>Safe operation of various construction equipment and hand tools associated with street maintenance and repair functions and excavation equipment.</li>\n<li><br>Operations, services, and activities of a City Public Works Department and street operations and maintenance functions.</li>\n<li><br>Various equipment materials, manuals, technical drawings and blueprints, local building codes and repair manuals.</li>\n<li><br>The operation of a variety of small to medium sized construction equipment and tools used in street maintenance and repair.</li>\n<li><br>Basic records management methods and techniques.</li>\n<li><br>English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.</li>\n<li><br>Understanding directions and relaying information in effective oral and written communication.</li>\n<li><br>Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, management, vendors, outside agencies, community groups and the general public.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education and Experience:</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><br>High School Diploma/GED.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Physical Requirements: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><br><span>Work is generally performed out of a street maintenance facility with the majority of work being performed in the field.</span></li>\n<li><br><span>Required to lift and carry items weighing up to 80 pounds regularly. </span></li>\n<li><br><span>Regularly exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, and potential physical harm when working on street construction, maintenance and repair projects and other related duties.</span></li>\n</ul>",
