Behavioral Health Therapist III
Inova Cares for Behavioral Health is looking for a dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist III to join the team. This role directly supports our commitment to advancing equity in mental health care by serving communities with limited access to insurance or consistent care. You will play a critical role in fostering a therapeutic environment grounded in clinical excellence, cultural humility, and community-centered care—supporting individuals across a range of mental health diagnoses, ages, and lived experiences. This role will be full-time day shift from Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Behavioral Health Therapist III Job Responsibilities:
Provides care coordination to assure that the patient and family receive and are subsequently referred to appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize treatment/intervention outcomes. disorders, medical diagnosis and chronic or life limited illnesses while assisting with community outreach as needed.
Strong documentation and clinical assessment skills aligned with Virginia Medicaid standards.
Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions (when indicated) to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health related field.
Experience : Three years of experience post licensure in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidence-based interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies).
Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association within 3 months of hire. Crisis Prevention Institute within 6 months of hire. CPI in-person training for non-violent crisis intervention, receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire.
Licensure: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).
Preferred Qualification:
Bilingual in Spanish
Experience engaging in peer supervision, clinical consultation, or interdisciplinary case discussions
Comfortable working in integrated behavioral health and collaborative care settings. Skilled in utilizing screening tools (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7), engaging in warm handoffs, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support coordinated, whole-person care.
Possess clinical insight into family systems and relational dynamics, with the ability to navigate complex support structures to promote resilience and emotional wellness.
Can confidently facilitate psychoeducational programming tailored to diverse groups and life experiences.
Comfortable using telehealth platforms and remote care tools
