Description

All About You We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an HSE Engineer. In this role, you will lead environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs for a rechargeable lithium‑ion battery manufacturing facility. You will develop, implement, and monitor systems that reduce waste, emissions, energy use, and operational risk. You will also support site safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across all EHS disciplines. Requirements A bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering, environmental sciences, occupational safety, or public health. Experience implementing OSHA safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and managing industrial hygiene monitoring. Experience with environmental regulations and assuring site compliance with regulations. 5+ years of experience in a HSE role , or similar, with exposure to environmental compliance, permitting, and safety / sustainability project management in manufacturing or similar high‑hazard industries. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Sharepoint. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, work in outdoor weather extremes, bend, squat, twist, stand for periods of time up to 8 hours, climb, and sit for long hours. Must be able to utilize personal protective equipment including a PAPR (Powered Air Personal Respirator). Must be able to work around and in the presence of strong magnets. Experience in metal or electronics recycling, or related industry, preferred. Familiarity with lithium‑ion battery manufacturing is preferred. Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Operational Control and Worksite Presence : Support site safety by implementing safety standards and ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and corporate HSE requirements. Permit to Work preparation, verification, and field checks Verification of risk controls (LOTO, work at height, confined space, chemicals) Conduct routine safety inspections of production areas, chemical storage, high-voltage areas, and energy‑dense material handling zones. Monitoring PPE use and adequacy Supporting industrial hygiene controls and exposure prevention Verifying contractor compliance with HSE requirements on site Supporting contractor risk assessments and permits Participating in lead toolbox talks with contractors and employees. Operational Risk Assessment and Field Support : Preparing and reviewing risk assessments (JHA, TRA, task‑based analyses) Supporting management of change by contributing HSE risk inputs Participating in critical task analysis and operational readiness reviews Environmental Compliance : Maintain and apply for environmental permits (air, wastewater, stormwater, radiological) and conduct routine compliance inspections and audits. Maintain environmental records and submit required reports to EPA and MDE, including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, and radiological filings. Manage hazardous waste storage, 90‑day accumulation areas, waste manifests, and vendor oversight to ensure full RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) and DOT compliance. Conduct environmental risk assessments for chemical storage, solvent use, and chemical material handling. Sustainability Leadership : Oversee the site’s sustainability program by developing energy reduction strategies and implementing innovative reduction projects. Engage employees to propose sustainability ideas and evaluate initiatives for feasibility, cost effectiveness, and alignment with corporate goals. Effectively communicate project status to internal and external stakeholders. Data & Systems Management Manage environmental and HSE data in the Data Management System to ensure accurate recordkeeping, trend analysis, and reporting. Track leading and lagging indicators, sustainability metrics, waste generation, incident trends, and regulatory deadlines.
