Description
Description
This is an opportunity to join Ascot Group - one of the world’s preeminent specialty risk underwriting organizations.
Designed as a modern-era company operating through an ecosystem of interconnected global operating platforms, we’re bound by a common mission and purpose: One Ascot. Our greatest strength is a talented team who flourishes in a collaborative, inclusive, and entrepreneurial culture, steeped in underwriting excellence, integrity, and a passion to find a better way, The Ascot Way.
The Ascot Way guides our people and our organization. Our underwriting platforms collaborate to find creative ways to deploy our capital in a true cross-product and cross-platform approach. These platforms work as one, deploying our capital creatively through our unique Fusion Model: Client Centric, Risk Centric, Technology Centric.
Built to be resilient, Ascot maximizes client financial security while delivering bespoke products and world class service — both pre- and post-claims. Ascot exists to solve our clients’ brightest tomorrow, through agility, collaboration, resilience, and discipline.
Position Overview:
As part of Ascot’s Finance function, the Staff Accountant will report to the Head of Finance Operational Strategy & Enablement. This role will provide end-to-end accounting support across both Ascot and Ascot Workers Comp (“WC”) operations, with emphasis on integration activities and ongoing support of functional Centers of Excellence. This role will also provide a consistent point of contact to standardize processes, ensure timely close execution, and support accurate reporting; leverages Microsoft Office tools (Excel/Teams/SharePoint/Outlook) to improve collaboration, documentation, and workflow tracking across locations. This role will work on a hybrid basis from MS office location.
Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations—including Workers’ Comp (WC) accruals and reserves—ensuring timely, accurate support for the close and reporting processes.
Support the month-end close for Ascot and Ascot WC, delivering clear variance explanations, flux analyses, and ad hoc financial insights for management and business partners.
Assist with indirect and direct tax filings by compiling required data, coordinating with internal and external partners, and ensuring submissions meet timelines and documentation standards.
Drive special projects tied to integration, process standardization, and controls—such as mapping WC system outputs to the general ledger and building consistent reporting and reconciliation templates.
Support internal control execution across close and reporting activities by preparing clear, audit-ready support, maintaining evidence, and partnering with process owners to address control gaps and remediation actions.
Provide claims and operational accounting support that leverages WC systems (e.g., Great Plains, Avail, Pacasso, and Pabblo)—including reviewing claim-level financial activity, extracting and validating data for reporting, troubleshooting data issues, and reconciling WC system reports to general ledger balances, research variances, document conclusions, and partner with stakeholders through resolution.
Identify opportunities to streamline and standardize workflows (reconciliations, reporting, and documentation) and implement practical improvements using Excel, Teams, and SharePoint to increase transparency, reduce cycle time, and strengthen collaboration.
Own and maintain WC systems documentation (SOPs, desk procedures, and report logic), support user access and control requirements, and partner with IT/COEs on enhancements, testing, and post-integration stabilization.
Live The Ascot Way by collaborating across teams, embracing inclusivity, and demonstrating accountability while helping build an engaged, high-performing culture.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field (or equivalent experience).
3-5 years of hands-on experience in a similar role.
Working knowledge of accounting principles. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with accounting software. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
