The Canadian Opera Company is now accepting applications for the position of Company Manager. This is a permanent replacement sought to support continuity within the team. PURPOSE OF ROLE The Canadian Opera Company is at a defining moment of transformation. Ensuring a welcoming, well-supported, and seamlessly coordinated experience for visiting artists is essential to sustaining this energy, fostering an environment where performers and creators can do their best work and feel fully supported throughout their time in Toronto. Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Company Manager supports visiting artists and creative personnel engaged by the Canadian Opera Company. From initial arrival through rehearsals and performances, the Company Manager oversees a wide range of responsibilities—from providing day-to-day support, to managing administrative and financial processes, to supporting performance operations, and collaborating across departments—ensuring a positive experience for all grounded in strong communication and a high standard of care. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Artist Services and Coordination Coordinate travel, immigration, accommodation, and local transportation arrangements for visiting artists and creative personnel. Provide day-to-day support to artists during rehearsal and performance periods. Liaise with artists and their agents to ensure logistical needs are addressed in a timely manner. Assist artists with practical arrangements such as medical appointments, local services, and orientation to company facilities. Maintain positive relationships with service providers including hotels, travel agencies, and local vendors. Administrative and Financial Coordination Gather required banking and documentation information for artists in coordination with the Finance department. Process artist reimbursements and expense claims through the company’s financial systems. Maintain detailed records related to artist logistics, travel arrangements, and service providers. Support preparation and distribution of welcome packages and relevant documentation for visiting artists. Production and Performance Support Attend rehearsals and performances as required to support artists and address logistical needs. Coordinate medical support arrangements for rehearsals and performances, including doctor scheduling where required. Monitor artist well-being during performance periods and communicate concerns to relevant leadership when necessary. Assist with facilitating opening night and dress rehearsal tickets, as well as performance-related events involving artists and guests. Departmental Collaboration Collaborate with the Contracts Manager, Senior Manager Scheduling, and Director, Ensemble Studio to support artist coordination and scheduling needs. Coordinate with the Box Office to arrange complimentary or purchased tickets for artists, agents, and guests. Liaise with external agencies such as Service Canada regarding VISAs, work permits or related documentation. Provide support for health and safety or public health protocols affecting visiting artists as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in arts administration, company management, or event coordination. Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during rehearsal and performance periods. Experience supporting artists or performers in a performing arts or cultural organization is an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and administrative software systems. Experience working with scheduling or production management systems such as ArtsVision is an asset. Familiarity with financial systems such as Business Central / Dynamics 365 is an asset.
