Description

Overview The East Coast School of Combined Martial Arts engages and promotes the common good and general welfare of youngsters ages 8 to 18 by providing safe and effective classes in martial arts. By exposing these children to a broad range of experiences — including international travel — and by maintaining the highest standards, the East Coast School of Combined Martial Arts aims to help each child realize his or her academic and personal potential through a simple model: we make no excuses. Founded in September 1995, the East Coast School of Combined Martial Arts is a comprehensive youth enrichment program that combines martial arts instruction, academic tutoring, community service, college preparation, leadership development, and mentoring for students in the greater Boston area. Funded directly by the Boston Police Activities League (P.A.L.), we provide intensive, long-term support through a broad range of services for children and families, starting in elementary school and extending beyond college graduation. Currently, at a low-cost or no-cost rate, we serve 210 students from the greater Boston area, with 146 of our students coming from the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. Key Duties and Responsibilities Role & Responsibilities: Lead Guidance Counselor (In-Person & Virtual) - Abide by CDC guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants. - Assist with the training and instruction of participants in basic karate techniques to provide a quality, competitive environment for young athletes of color in the sport of karate. - Instruct karate team participants on safe karate techniques, physical training regimens, and proper form to prevent injury. - Assist in organizing and coordinating karate team practices and physical workouts, ensuring that sessions are structured and effective. - Develop and implement the "Challenge Friday" action learning program for 10+ students of color, focusing on skills development and leadership. - Create detailed lesson plans that align with students' needs and learning outcomes, ensuring all activities are inclusive and engaging.
