Reports to: HSSE Manager

NatCarbon Africa seeks a HSSE Systems Reporting Specialist in the HSSE Department for the large-scale Spekboom Restoration Project in the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa.
With our partner, Imperative Global, our aim is to restore up to 100,000 hectares of degraded subtropical thicket biome. The Project entails planting Spekboom ( Portulacaria afra ) on privately owned land to improve ecosystem functioning and agricultural productivity over time, promote biodiversity, improve soil filtration, enhance water storage capabilities, and to reduce soil erosion. The Project is estimated to permanently store large quantities of Carbon Dioxide over the Project life, thus positively contributing towards climate change mitigation.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the HSSE Manager, the HSSE Systems specialist is responsible for managing the reporting of health, safety, security, and environment aspects of the Project. The HSSE reporting specialist is responsible for managing and optimising the health and safety data using the Isometrix platform – a leading integrated risk management software for EHS (Environment, Health, Safety). The position focuses on accurate data capture, incident reporting, analytics and generating insightful reports to drive proactive safety improvements across the project.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Ensure a proactive HSSE culture, including buy-in from our partners, employees and contractors.
Administer, manage and maintain the Isometrix EHS module, ensuring seamless data entry, workflow management, and system configuration.
Capture, investigate, and report on health and safety incidents, near-misses, hazards, and observations from project teams.
Generate regular and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, using Isometrix tools to monitor safety performance, trends, and compliance.
Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up with the HSSE manager on incidents to prevent recurrence.
Training field staff and supervisors on Isometrix mobile/data capture tools to promote accurate and timely reporting.
Collaborate with the HSSE Manager and project teams to identify risks in the project activities (e.g., manual labour, machinery use, remote site work) and recommend mitigations.
Ensure alignment with, project HSSE policies, and regulatory requirements.
Develop and manage audits, inspections, and other system requirements to ensure continuous improvement of the safety management system.
Assist with Investigations and report on incidents and accidents, compile action plans and track corrective actions to completion, including defining and classifying HSSE incidents (e.g. exposure hours, recordable cases, lost time injuries, high potential incidents).
General:

Skills:
Familiarity and working knowledge on the Isometrix platform.
Have extremely well-developed communication and excellent reporting writing skills.
Strong virtual communication skills to support field teams with data submission requirements without needing to be physically present at all times.
Must be able to work effectively under pressure and with minimal supervision.
Ability to structure data inputs to ensure clean, extractable information for complex HSSE metrics.
A "quality-first" approach to data entry and record-keeping, ensuring all incident logs and environmental data are complete and verified.
High level of personal integrity when handling sensitive safety data and personnel incident records.
Qualifications:
The position requires a relevant diploma in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
Valid certification in HSSE management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, SAMTRAC) is required.
Advantageous: Internal Auditors qualification: ISO 45001 and relevant experience will be advantageous.
Advantageous: Registration to a relevant health and safety organisation: SIAOSH; SACPCMP; IOSH.
Knowledge and Experience:
Proven experience in management of Isometrix systems.
Minimum of 5 years proven experience as an HSE officer or similar role preferably with experience working in environmental, agriculture or forestry sectors.
Proven experience in Auditing, Inspection, Incident Management & Investigation,
In-depth knowledge of HSSE regulations and best practices.
Good understanding of HSSE management systems, proven experience in the application of HSSE management systems (an advantage).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid Driver’s License.
Fluency in English (with ability to converse in Xhosa and/or Afrikaans advantageous).
Working Conditions
Frequent travel within the Eastern and Western Cape anticipated, including to remote locations. Travel may on occasion cross weekends and holidays to accommodate schedules. Work hours may be irregular.
