Description
ESSENTIAL POSITION PURPOSE
The University of Providence seeks an accomplished academic faculty member to serve as Chair for the BSN programs and Program Director for the BSN and MSN programs. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Chair will be a member of the school’s senior leadership team. In line with the University's mission and values, this role carries primary administrative responsibility for all BSN programs, including accreditation, curriculum, and policies and procedures.
The Chair will ensure the quality of all nursing programs, guiding them to meet their objectives and maintain national accreditation and state regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include program assessment, curriculum development, and fostering continuous improvement across all programs. Additionally, the role oversees programs’ operations. The Chair will collaborate with the associate dean, dean, university departments, Providence Health System, and regional leaders to ensure cohesive structures and processes for all programs.
This full-time position is eligible for tenure and a University of Providence faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience.
KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
School – Dean, program chairs and advisory committees, full- and part-time faculty, adjunct faculty, professional staff, students University – Academic Success Center, Registrar’s Office, Enrollment Management, Marketing/PR, Student Affairs, Distance-Learning, Information Services, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Dean and department Chairs in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Providence Health System and local and regional health systems/hospitals leaders, departments, and councils.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Leadership Strategic Planning - Provides strategic directions and oversight for all BSN programs, ensuring alignment with the school and university’s mission and goals. Representation and Advocacy - Effectively and ethically represents the BSN programs’ goals, strategies, and interests to the university internally and externally. Program Development and Improvement - Leads the development, review, and revision of the BSN programs, incorporating best practices, research, performance needs assessment, and training assessments into the design and delivery of programs to maintain contemporary and relevant nursing education. Program Evaluation - Oversees systematic program evaluation and assessment activities to ensure continuous quality improvement and compliance with accreditation standards (CCNE). Data Management and Reporting – Collects and archives program data to document and report program outcomes and effectiveness to the Dean, Provost, other executive leaders, and any regulatory or accrediting agencies per assigned program requirements. Collaborates with other departments and stakeholders to foster interprofessional education and practice opportunities. Clinical Coordination - Assesses and coordinates clinical facility placement needs and evaluates the quality of clinical facilities, following state and national regulatory requirements, to ensure that clinical learning experiences satisfy the course and program learning outcomes. Operational Oversight - Provides direct oversight of day-to-day operations of the ABSN and RN-BSN programs. Diversity and Inclusion - Supports diversity and inclusion and fosters a positive work environment, interpersonal relationships and communication, collaboration, and consensus building. Shared Governance - Liaises with applicable school and university shared governance committees on academic, curricular, student, and faculty affairs matters. Team Collaboration - Performs all duties in a manner that promotes effective team collaboration and reflects the University and Providence’s mission and philosophy. Faculty Management Recruits, hires, orients, and mentors qualified faculty for all BSN programs. Participates in faculty performance evaluations and promote professional development opportunities. Student Experience Ensures a positive and quality experience from recruitment and admissions through graduation. Develops and implement strategies to enhance student recruitment, retention, and success. Oversees student advising and support services. Addresses student concerns and grievances in a timely and effective manner. Policy, Accreditation, Compliance, and Quality Assurance Oversees the adherence to applicable academic policies (at the school, university, state, and national level). Ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory state Board of Nursing and CCNE accreditation standards. Leads the preparation of internal and external administrative reports related to the BSN programs, including self-study and site visit preparations for accreditation. Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in nursing education. Community Engagement Establishes and maintains partnerships with healthcare organizations to provide quality clinical experiences for students. Represents the BSN programs at professional conferences and community events. Professional Development Maintains current knowledge of higher education, health professions, and nursing by attending state and national conferences and participating in other professional development activities to ensure the university’s programs remain robust, current, and relevant. Faculty Role Fulfills academic faculty obligations of teaching, service, and scholarships in area of expertise with a minimum teaching load of 50%, as negotiated with the Dean.
ESSENTIAL POSITION COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Education
A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required; a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD in Nursing is preferred. Preferred eligibility for associate professor or professor rank.
Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in nursing education, with at least three years in a leadership role. Experience with diverse BSN program delivery models (ABSN, RN-BSN, traditional). Demonstrated success in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation. Demonstrated success in academic program development, implementation, and evaluation. Direct experience with regional and programmatic accreditation. Experience with distance education and online learning platforms. Experienced in academic networking and committed to integrating best practices into academic systems and processes. Track record of scholarly activities, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national/international conferences. Licensure: If eligible for professional licensure, current, unencumbered professional license, and Montana licensure eligibility.
