    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p>The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) invites applications for Lecturer in Linguistics for the 2026–2027 academic year. In this role, faculty will teach an in-person section of Introduction to Linguistics (ENG 121). Topics include language universals (what all languages have in common), language and society (how language reflects society/culture), language as a physical/psychological phenomenon (how we produce and comprehend language), how language works (the internal structures of sounds, words, phrases, and sentences), and language acquisition.</p><p><strong>Salary &amp; Benefits</strong></p><p>Part-time faculty members are compensated on a per-credit-hour basis, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and in accordance with the Maine Part-Time Faculty Association (PATFA) contract. Per-credit-hour basis rates start at $1,211. To view the Credit Hour Rates for AY 2026, please refer to the&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https://www.maine.edu/human-resources/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2024/03/PATFA-2023-2026-CBA-accessible.docx\">PATFA Contract</a>.</p><p>Teaching opportunities in future semesters are based on course funding, performance, need, and availability. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable University policies.</p><p>Eligible part-time faculty members may elect certain&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https://drive.google.com/file/d/16-xyB6ckVRqfv6LYwnnozy3GQHM8JaZT/view?usp=sharing\"><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">benefits</a></a>&nbsp;provided by the University of Maine System.</p><p><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Curriculum Development:</strong>&nbsp;Design and maintain syllabi aligned with departmental expectation and established course blueprints.</li><li><strong>Instructional Delivery:</strong>&nbsp;Lead lesson planning and facilitate instruction via Brightspace LMS or other instructional software.
