Description

PLANNING COMMISSION  The Planning Commission is a seven-member board which assists the local elected officials in developing the goals, policies and programs for future development of the local neighborhoods and community. They set goals and objectives for a community's future physical development and help the community attain its goals by reviewing and approving land development proposals. Terms are for three (3) years, appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Meetings are twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m. and as such other times as the Planning Commission may determine. LANDMARKS COMMISSION-FORMERLY HISTORIC SITES COMMITTEE   The Centerville Landmarks Commission consists of five (5) - seven (7) members and meets on a monthly basis. Committee members help with various projects preserving the history of the city. The Committee helps plan and direct the activities scheduled during the annual Historic Preservation Week each May. Committee terms are for three (3) years, and appointment is made by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE   The Parks and Recreation Committee consists of not more than seven (7) members but no less than five (5) who act as an advisory body to the City Council by providing support, guidance and planning for development of parks & recreation opportunities for Centerville residents. Terms of appointment are staggered terms of three (3) years and may be shorter than three (3) years when necessary to provide staggered terms. One member of the Parks and Recreation Committee will be the Chair of the Trails Committee. The committee generally meets monthly. 4TH OF JULY COMMITTEE   Every year Centerville celebrates the independence of the citizens of the United States with parades, races, fireworks, carnivals and music. The 4th of July Committee is a volunteer group of citizens that pull it all together. The committee is usually comprised of subcommittees in charge of specific aspects of the celebration. Serving on this committee is a challenging and fun experience and a great opportunity to provide a service to the residents of Centerville that leaves smiles on everyone's faces and promotes a community spirit. TRAILS COMMITTEE   The Trails Committee consists of not more than seven (7) but no less than five (5) members who act as advisory Committee to the City Council to recommend and promote the establishment of public trails and related facilities, programs and policies to meet recreational needs of the citizens of Centerville City. Terms of appointment are staggered terms of three (3) years and may be shorter than three (3) years when necessary to provide staggered terms. The Chair of the Trails Committee shall also be a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee. The committee generally meets monthly. WHITAKER MUSEUM BOARD   The Whitaker Museum Board consists of five (5) regular members who shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council to act as an advisory board to the City Council regarding the facilities, programs and policies for the administration and operation of the Thomas Whitaker Home Museum. Terms of appointment are staggered terms of three (3) years and may be shorter than three (3) years when necessary to provide staggered terms. The Board may hold meetings at such times as the Board determines is necessary. BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT   The Board of Adjustment consists of five (5) members who are appointed by the Mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council. Each member of the Board of Adjustment shall serve for a term of five (5) years and/or until his/her successor is appointed. Meetings of the Board of Adjustment shall be held at the call of the Chairman and at such other times as the Board may determine. The Board of Adjustment hears appeals by any person who may be aggrieved or by any officer, department, board or bureau of the municipality affected by any decision of the administrative officer. TREE BOARD The Tree Board consists of not more than seven (7) but no less than five (5) members who act as advisory board to the City Council and other departments for the purpose of providing guidance to the City on the planting, maintaining and removing of trees on public property and within the public park strips. Terms of appointment are staggered terms of three (3) years and may be shorter than three (3) years when necessary to provide staggered terms. The Chair of the Tree Board shall also be a member of the Tree Board. The board generally meets monthly. GENERAL VOLUNTEER YOUTH COACH
