    "description": "<p><br><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Grounds &amp; Fields Worker</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Reporting to the Grounds &amp; Fields Supervisor, the Grounds &amp; Fields Worker is a key member of our team, responsible for providing day to day operations and maintenance to all grounds and fields facilities at the School. You will ensure the trees, shrubs, flowers, lawns and fields are maintained in top condition.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The Grounds &amp; Fields Worker has experience working with grounds and turf or landscape maintenance and the related tools and equipment.  They are keen to use their handyperson and troubleshooting skills as they keep our campus grounds and fields looking sharp year-round.  This role will require someone energetic who is able to work in all weather conditions and has the physical capacity to lift and carry 50-lbs, stand, walk and squat for extended periods of time.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This is a full-time, year-round position offering a salary of $53,037 per annum, plus a full benefits package, RRSP with employer-matched contributions, paid vacation, a flexible work environment, and a nurturing family-friendly workplace.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ROLES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES</span></p>\n<p>Reporting to the Grounds and Fields Supervisor, the tasks of the Grounds &amp; Fields Worker include, but are not limited to:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gardening and maintenance activities such as planting, weeding, mowing, and pruning</li>\n<li>Working with team members in maintaining formal gardens, trails, and natural areas</li>\n<li>May remove shrubs and trees</li>\n<li>Sow grass and renovate turf areas; may apply herbicides to lawn.</li>\n<li>Pick up and/or deliver equipment and supplies</li>\n<li>Perform irrigation maintenance, adjustments, and repairs during growing season.</li>\n<li>Assist with regular hardscape maintenance of walkways, fencing, walls, gates, water features, outdoor lighting, and other features</li>\n<li>Assist with spring and fall clean-up of leaves and debris from beds, turf, and hardscape</li>\n<li>Assist with plant health care activities including mulching, planting, deadheading, and supplemental watering</li>\n<li>Assist with snow and ice removal</li>\n<li>Assist with set-up and take-down for events on the grounds</li>\n<li>Clean gutters, clean roofs of moss and other debris</li>\n<li>Assists in maintenance of athletic fields (natural grass and synthetic surfaces)</li>\n<li>Perform turf maintenance including mowing, edging and trim work</li>\n<li>Field markings and logo painting</li>\n<li>Clean equipment that has been used and report any deficiencies</li>\n<li>Other related duties as required</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">REQUIREMENTS</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid class 5 driving license</li>\n<li>Demonstrable experience working with grounds and turf or landscape maintenance</li>\n<li>Experience with and knowledge of correct application of landscape maintenance tools and equipment (power tools; lawnmowers; weed eaters, power washer etc.), as well as current industry techniques and standards</li>\n<li>Handyperson skills including basic trouble-shooting of equipment, light painting, woodwork and snow shoveling</li>\n<li>A strong ability to recognize plant healthcare needs and problems</li>\n<li>Physical capacity to lift and carry 50-lbs; stand, walk, squat for extended periods of time</li>\n<li>Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions</li>\n<li>High level of reliability and timeliness</li>\n<li>Self-motivated and independent, with a proven ability to work with minimal supervision</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">OUR SCHOOL</span></p>\n<p><span><a href=\"http://www.shawnigan.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shawnigan Lake School</a></span> is a leading independent co-educational boarding school for ages 12-18 (grades 8-12) on Canada’s beautiful west coast.
