How does the Engineer Hiring Program work? Hiring supervisors in the Austin Central Office, or any of TCEQ’s sixteen regional offices, may request candidates with specific Texas Professional Engineer licenses and geographic preferences from the Engineer Hiring pool. The hiring supervisor schedules interviews and makes a final selection. General Engineering Specialist IV A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus four years of full-time engineering experience**. General Engineering Specialist V A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus five years of full-time engineering experience**. General Engineering Specialist VI A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university, plus six years of full-time engineering experience**. ** Substitutions for experience: State of Texas Engineer-in-Training (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification will substitute for six months of the required experience. A master's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related fields from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience. A doctorate in engineering, environmental science, or related fields from an accredited college or university may substitute for two years of the required experience. NOTE: The program is not available to current TCEQ employees or those individuals who decline an offer of employment HOW TO APPLY Only applicants who apply with a State of Texas application via the CAPPS online application system will be considered for this position.
