Summary The person in this position functions in the Clinic and/or OR setting under the supervision of his/her assigned physician; may perform activities which involve an initial evaluation and treatment of the patient’s condition, as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards. We are seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our team in a collaborative role alongside a board-certified surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity care. The position involves a schedule integrated with both clinic and surgical operations. We encourage you to reach out today if you are interested in this dynamic opportunity! Experience in the upper extremity is preferred. Responsibilities Hospital/Surgical Activities Secures patients’ history and physical and records same in medical record. Assists surgeon with daily rounds and records such as progress notes. Ensures the delivery of required patient x-rays to the operating room prior to operative procedure. Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room. Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed. Closes surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound care, removal of K-wires, etc. Transmits supervising surgeon’s orders and ensures co-signature by surgeon. Inserts foley catheters, prn. Applies dressings, casts, splint brace, abduction pillows, etc. Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied health. Performs minor surgical procedures within scope of licensure. Performs and/or assists with patient traction, adjustment, realignment and removal of traction. Dictates H&P’s, consultations and discharge summaries. Clinic Activities Performs joint aspirations/injections. Interprets x-rays. Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician. Secures histories and physicals. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits. Removes staples, sutures, drains, etc. Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision. Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval. Other Functions Performs clinical research, presentations, and other academic activities, as needed with physician. Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls.
