About Us
At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm: not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.
Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers, without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and execute coastal modelling studies
Develop hydrodynamic and wave models
Perform wave runup, overtopping, and flooding analyses
Support design of marine and coastal infrastructure
Size armourstone and coastal protection systems
Interpret metocean and climate data
Prepare technical reports and client deliverables
Support multidisciplinary engineering teams
Assist with proposals and business development
Qualifications:
Degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean, or Water Resources Engineering.
Eng. (or eligible for registration in Canada)
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience with preference for experience in:
Coastal and marine hydrodynamic modelling
Wave modelling and wave runup analysis
Current modelling and sediment transport
Sea level rise and coastal flooding assessments
Armourstone sizing and revetment / breakwater design
Numerical modelling for marine infrastructure design
Port, harbour, shoreline protection, and coastal structure projects
Climate resilience and adaptation for coastal infrastructure
Consulting experience preferred
Experience delivering engineering design packages and technical reports
Project experience, working on projects such as marine terminals, breakwaters and revetments, harbour and port infrastructure, shoreline stabilization, etc.
Software and Modelling skills, in programs such as:
MIKE21 / MIKE Powered by DHI: Hydrodynamic (HD), Spectral Waves (SW), Sediment Transport (ST) and Coupled Modelling.
GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS)
AutoCAD / Civil 3D
Python or MATLAB for data analysis and automation
Experience with LiDAR, bathymetry, and metocean datasets
Benefits and Perks:
Full time permanent salaried position
Option to work hybrid from any of our offices or remotely with occasional travel
Employee owned company with future potential to be a shareholder
Year end profit sharing bonus
Health and dental benefits
Matching RRSP program, up to 5% employer matched contributions
Paid time off (vacation starting at 3 weeks per year and sick days)
Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and New Years)
Work/life balance including a 37.5 hour work week and flexible hours
Growth and development opportunities as we work on a large variety of projects so you can build your skills and experience.
