Description
CCS Summary: Since 1969, Center for Community Solutions (CCS) has been creating safe and healthy communities with a core emphasis on the prevention and intervention of sexual assault and relationship violence. Our mission is to end relationship and sexual violence by being a catalyst for caring communities .
Summary : Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Services, the Youth Advocate is responsible for developing and providing onsite trauma-informed direct services and activities for youth (ages 0-17) and caregivers residing in confidential residential programs for families impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence. Youth-centered services will include crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy with schools and other entities, and activities which increase engagement in communal environment, learning of coping skills to heal from abuse they have experienced, and other supportive activities while in the residential program. This position will require working closely with residential advocates and staff across CCS programs, as well as forging collaborative relationships with other youth-serving providers throughout San Diego County.
Essential Functions:
Conduct developmentally appropriate intakes and needs assessments for youth using trauma-informed and client-centered approaches.
Provide individualized support, child-focused activities, psychoeducation, advocacy, and resource referrals based on participant needs.
Assist in developing individualized goal plans and monitor client progress through regular meetings and ongoing support.
Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed, including support related to parenting strategies, child development, school needs, and community resources such as childcare services.
Develop, organize, and facilitate onsite youth programming, including recreational activities, playgroups, and family engagement events.
Provide advocacy and support for school enrollment, school transitions, and connections to eligible educational and supportive services.
Deliver crisis intervention, emotional support, and emergency response services for at-risk children, youth, and families.
Coordinate with schools, community partners, service providers, and youth-serving organizations to support client needs and continuity of care.
Maintain knowledge of agency programs, community resources, and applicable regulations, including the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
Support daily shelter operations to help maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment for participants.
Complete and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation within web-based systems and required reports.
Administer approved client assistance, including gift cards, and ensure proper documentation and fiscal submission procedures are followed.
Maintain training required and complete a minimum of 12 hours of ongoing training annually.
Meet all required timekeeping practices and deadlines in compliance with federal and state laws.
Maintain knowledge of agency programs and services; build partnerships with youth-serving organizations and participate in cross-training and team collaboration.
Support day-to-day shelter operations to ensure participant’s safety and well-being.
Complete and maintain accurate documentation and reports in web-based computer applications.
Manage approved gift cards and ensure proper documentation and timely submission to Fiscal.
Coordinate with school liaisons to connect families to eligible state and federal services.
Qualifications
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, child development, or a related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Coursework in child development and/or experience working with at-risk youth from an accredited educational institution.
Complete California State-approved Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (or must complete upon hiring).
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience supporting traumatized or at-risk children and youth.
Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience in family violence services, client advocacy, and/or crisis intervention.
Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience facilitating groups, providing advocacy, case management, residential care, and/or supportive services.
Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience working with children, adolescents, youth, and/or families, preferably within underserved or high-risk communities.
Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience coordinating referrals, advocacy, and supportive services with community partners and external service providers.
Preferred Experience:
Bilingual oral and written fluency in Spanish.

Ability to build rapport and maintain supportive, trauma-informed relationships with children and at-risk youth.
Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-stress or crisis situations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based applications, electronic recordkeeping, and cloud-based systems.
Ability to learn and adapt to new technology platforms and systems.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain attention to detail, and meet deadlines.
Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, and consistently perform duties thoroughly and professionally.
Ability to adapt effectively to changing priorities, responsibilities, and operational needs.
Working Environment: 100% in-person required. This position operates within a communal housing environment and requires the use of a personal cell phone for work-related communication. The role involves working with survivors impacted by IPV, sexual assault, and stalking in trauma-informed settings. Working conditions may include potential exposure to communicable illnesses commonly associated with communal living environments.
Physical Demands: The physical requirements described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Duties regularly require the ability to see, speak, and hear effectively. The position frequently involves standing, walking, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, reaching, and using hands for handling or operating objects and equipment. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Travel: Travel between CCS offices, residential sites, and community-based locations such as schools, courthouses, partner agencies, and other service locations is required to perform job duties (up to 50%, primarily within San Diego County). Must maintain access to reliable transportation for work-related travel.
Work Hours: This position requires flexibility to work variable shifts based on the ages, needs, and schedules of residents and planned youth activities. Employees must be available to work two weekday afternoon/evening shifts (e.g., 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.) and one weekend shift (e.g., 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) per week. Employees are expected to be onsite at residential locations during times when clients are present and services are being provided. A minimum of 30 hours per week is required to maintain full-time status and associated benefits.
