Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs complex imaging procedures using fluoroscopy, digital subtraction angiography, and other advanced imaging modalities to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating vascular and non-vascular conditions. This role involves preparing patients, operating imaging equipment, maintaining a sterile field, assisting with procedures, and ensuring patient safety and radiation protection standards are met. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Review requisitions, verify exam orders, and prepare appropriate equipment, supplies, and medications. Identify and screen patients for proper preparation and possible allergies to contrast materials; consult with radiologist or attending physician as needed. Verify that required lab tests have been completed prior to the procedure. Explain the procedure to the patient and ensure informed understanding. Schedule and/or reschedule patients as needed. Prepare and position patients for interventional and angiographic procedures. Maintain sterile technique and assist with sterile tray setup. Assist the interventional radiologist or physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., angiograms, biopsies, drain placements, embolizations, etc.). Operate fluoroscopy, C-arm, and other specialized imaging equipment to obtain optimal imaging results. Administer contrast media and monitor patients for adverse reactions per department protocol and within licensure scope. Practice radiation safety for patients, self, and others in accordance with ALARA principles and regulatory standards. Review and evaluate completed images for quality, completeness, and proper exam protocol. Enter and manage exams in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS); ensure images are sent to all required cloud systems. Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance standards. Assist in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintain adequate inventory levels. Adhere to hospital and departmental dress code and professional standards. Attend required in-service sessions, safety training, and department meetings (minimum 50% attendance required). Perform duties of an Interventional Radiologic Technologist as needed and assist other imaging modalities when appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by the Diagnostic Imaging Director. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Shift Requirements: Tuesday availability only.
