Description
I. JOB SUMMARY The Fowler Center of MCHS Family of Services is a non-profit camp for people of all ages with disabilities. We are looking for a committed, dynamic individual to join our year-round leadership team as a Program Supervisor. This position is responsible for summer and respite camp programming, as well as developing and leading travel adventures and group events. The Program Supervisor acts as the On-Site Administrator for summer camp sessions on a rotating basis with the Camp Director and runs Weekend Respites as On-Site Administrator, regularly observing staff members at camp, providing coaching, encouragement and necessary corrections..
II. DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ensure delivery of creative, innovative, fun programs to participants in seasonal camps, respite camps, day programs, school field trip programs, Travel Adventures, rental groups and community events. Develop and implement pre-camp staff training in conjunction with the Fowler Center leadership and administration teams. Supervise program and cabin staff during Summer Camps, Respite Camps, Day Camps, Travel Adventures; provide supervision and guidance to Independent Contractors, community members, rental groups and volunteers while on-site. Model, teach and uphold the MCHS code of conduct and protect the well-being of campers and program participants. Ensure excellent public relations and customer service to all camp inquiries as well as hosted groups. Consistently observe staff members at camp, providing coaching, encouragement and necessary corrections. Assist in the development and implementation of schedules for all areas of camp program and facilities year-round. Ensure camp staff and campers understand and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs. Assist in the implementation of ongoing camp staff and camper recruitment, including distribution of program marketing materials and presentations to targeted groups. Maintain necessary records and complete required forms and reports in a timely manner. Assist in facility preparation and hosting of rental or camp groups year-round on a rotating basis, which may include weekends and weeknights. Participate in year-round planning for camp. Assist in the care of camp animals as needed. Provide primary on-site leadership in the absence of the Camp Director. Perform other duties as assigned. III. BASIC COMPETENCIES
Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in human behavioral science such as Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation (CTRS), Recreation or related discipline preferred. Experience working with people with disabilities strongly preferred. Certifications with High/Low Ropes Course. Previous experience in a leadership role at an outdoor facility and camping programs. Waterfront Lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications or ability to attain required. Experience with event planning and organizing required. Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.
Knowledge Requirements: Strong computer and software applications (MS Office, Camp Wise). Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable and meets requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
Skills and Abilities Needed: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Exercise professional judgment in making decisions. Handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. Attend and conduct training and maintain necessary certificates of attendance/compliance. Ability to relate well to people of all abilities. Strategic and tactical planning. Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with agency staff, campers and their families, government officials, and other external stakeholders. Ability to demonstrate leadership and integrity. Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, motiving individuals to improve performance. Manage time and multiple priorities; meet deadlines. Possess excellent organizational skills to prioritize and coordinate multiple activities, problems, and crisis situations concurrently. Be collaborative and flexible, with a strong service mentality. Possess a high degree of personal accountability, responsibility, and independent decision making abilities with the skills to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the organization. Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission, vision, and core values. Work flexible hours, when needed, which may include some evening and weekends. IV. JOB SETTING
The work environment described here is representative of that which an employee will typically
encounter during a normal shift. Work may involve standing or walking for multiple hours during the
work shift and may involve exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may
be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
This position is responsible for overseeing duties and job functions as listed above. Occasional travel will
be required by the employee.
