Job Title: Hearing Teacher - K-age 21 (Part-Time)
Supervisor: Assistant Head of School
Regular Daily Schedule: 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Calendar to Follow: 10-month Academic Calendar
Status: Exempt
Term: 2-3 Days a Week
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with hearing loss, focusing on auditory skills development, language acquisition, communication strategies, and social-emotional well-being.
Provide direct instruction in areas such as listening skills, spoken language development, pre-literacy and literacy skills, and social communication.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, general education staff, related service providers, and families to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment for each student.
Recommend and implement accommodations and modifications within the classroom to optimize access to instruction and participation.
Train and coach classroom staff and peers on best practices for working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Monitor and assess student progress, document learning gains, and report to parents/guardians and the IEP team.
Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in deafness and hard of hearing education and incorporate effective strategies into teaching practices.
Maintain accurate records and complete all required paperwork in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
At least two years of experience teaching students with hearing loss in a school setting.
Strong understanding of deafness and hard of hearing, including communication methods, auditory development, and educational best practices.
Experience with developing and implementing IEPs for students with hearing loss.
Proficiency in using a variety of assistive listening devices and technologies.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using American Sign Language (ASL) or other visual communication methods.
Knowledge of current curriculum frameworks and assessments related to hearing loss.
Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
