Position Summary
Seabird Island is committed to revitalizing our culture and Halq’eméylem language to ensure the fluency of our students, community, and future generations. We are dedicated to creating a culturally safe and inclusive environment that respects and values Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and ways of being. We are seeking a Halq’eméylem Curriculum Assistant to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the curriculum program.
Under the direction of the Halq’eméylem Curriculum Lead and the Director of Inter-Government Affairs, the Summer Student supports the development of language resources, assists with research and helps prepare and deliver community programming while gaining hands-on experience in language revitalization. This role involves organizing existing digital files, creating vocabulary sheets and lesson outlines, assisting in gathering information, summarizing findings, and assisting during instruction sessions. The Summer Assistant will also engage in community relations activities to support clients and the community.
This is a Full-time term position from July 1st to August 15th.
What you'll do
Curriculum & Resource Support
Assist in developing and organizing Halq’eméylem language learning materials for K4–Grade 12 and community programs.
Support the creation of lesson plans, activities, and educational resources.
Help format and prepare curriculum documents, worksheets, and presentations.
Assist in reviewing materials for consistency, clarity, and cultural relevance.
Organize digital and physical curriculum files and resources.
Cultural Learning & Research
Support basic research on Halq’eméylem language, culture, and traditional practices.
Assist in gathering and organizing cultural teachings, stories, and language materials (under guidance).
Help document learning activities and cultural content appropriately and respectfully.
Support preparation for engagement with Knowledge Holders and community contributors (as appropriate).
Program & Community Support
Assist with preparing materials for workshops, classrooms, or community events.
Provide general administrative and project support to the Curriculum Lead.
Participate in team meetings and share ideas where appropriate.
Help with data entry, note taking, and tracking project progress
Learning Opportunities

Qualifications
Must be a current student. (Secondary or Post-Secondary)
Interest in education, language, cultura, or community development.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar.)
Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work respectfully with cultural knowledge and community values.
Willingness to learn and take direction.
Working / Special Conditions
Initial and ongoing employment is subject to submission of a clear Criminal Record Check to ensure the safety and trust of the communities we serve. This check will be conducted every five years.
