    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The Applied Sciences Laboratory at SRI International is seeking multiple <strong>Applied and Computational Scientists</strong> to conduct research and development in the areas of mathematics of generative AI models, reinforcement learning, and algorithm design. Though knowledge in one or more of these areas is desired, the ability to quickly learn new topics and dive into unfamiliar areas of research is a key ability that will be required.  These positions will be in support of a new computational and mathematical sciences team at SRI International headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, with flexibility for a hybrid work schedule. <strong>We are looking to fill in June, July or August, 2026.</strong> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Our team focuses on the development of new algorithms for a wide variety of exciting applications including supply chain networks, social graphs, optimization of generative AI models, material failures, quantum algorithms, and biological systems. The aim of the team is to conduct and publish research at top venues and assist SRI commercialize relevant technologies by filing patents and spinning out start-ups.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Successful candidates will start on the PI track:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Develop research ideas, lead the experimental evaluation of these ideas, present work to government and commercial clients,  </li>\n <li>Collaborate with project Principal Investigators (PIs) and their staff in academia, Industrial and National Labs</li>\n <li>Document research in technical reports and research papers</li>\n <li>Write Proposals</li>\n <li>Propose ideas against funding opportunities.</li>\n <li>Develop and implement new algorithms and benchmark against state-of-the-art approaches</li>\n <li>Upon successful program awards the position will transition into PI function</li>\n <li>Some travel will be required to project meetings, and conference venues</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Physics or Engineering with a focus on computational sciences, Computer Science or related area.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated publication record.</li>\n <li>Must have U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency</li>\n <li>Expertise in algorithm development associated with the following: artificial intelligence, algorithm design, scalable computational methods and their implementations.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated experience implementing novel algorithms in one or more programming languages such as Python, C/C++, and libraries associated with training of AI models.</li>\n <li>Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required.</li>\n <li>Ability to start June, July or August 2026</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The salary range is: $112,880-$149,570. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
