Description

The YWCA of the City of New York (YWCA NYC) is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Established in 1858, the YWCA NYC is one of the nation’s oldest nonprofit organizations committed to the personal and social development of women, their families, and their communities. In honor of this history, and in service of our mission, the YWCA NYC currently provides leadership and advocacy training for young women through our Girls Initiatives program, and youth development through our Out-of-School Time (OST) program for elementary and middle school students in culturally diverse communities in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The Education Specialist oversees the implementation of all aspects of curriculum development for all school-based OST programs. The Education Specialist will be responsible for developing thematic curriculum aligned with the agency’s mission and goals. The Education Specialist will also be responsible for writing lesson plans, supervise activity specialists and instructors, review all lesson plans, train staff in the unit's thematic curriculum and plan at least three culminating events a year aligned with the theme. In addition, the Education Specialist will conduct activity observations and provide staff coaching and feedback on activity and lesson plan facilitation. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Out-of-School Time. A successful Education Specialist will: bring a positive youth development lens to the role; build collaborative relationships with the school principal and staff; use evidence-based practices and data to continuously improve the OST programs; hold themselves and others accountable for program results; and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism. Responsibilities Hire, train and supervise at least 20 part time instructors/activity specialists. Provide coaching and feedback to group leaders and instructors based on observations. Program Development Create theme-based curriculum for the Fall, Spring and Summer units for K-8 students. Develop lesson plan aligned with the theme and agency’s mission. Ensure the programs have appropriate technology to fulfill lessons/activities. Identify subcontractors to provide enrichment services. Supervise and oversee subcontractor's timesheet and invoice monthly submission. Administration Create a universal lesson plan template Create an observation rubric for group leader and activity specialists' activity facilitation Create and adhere to a site visit/observation schedule Complete at least three staff evaluations for the fiscal year Plan and facilitate staff trainings for each unit Adhere to compliance requirements as identified by DOHMH and DYCD as they pertain to SACC license regulations Work with Program Directors to ensure that lessons/activities are being delivered with fidelity Perform other relevant duties as assigned by Supervisor as it pertains to the role
