Description

Overview The Scan Technician I is an entry-level field role responsible for supporting scanning operations under direct supervision. This role is learning-oriented by design — the expectation is that the individual is building foundational skills in equipment operation, site awareness, and point cloud fundamentals. This is a stepping-stone position; demonstrated growth and reliability are what lead to advancement. Responsibilities TE Technical Excellence • Actively build proficiency in scanning equipment operation, point cloud registration, and data QC fundamentals. • Shadow senior team members; ask questions and apply feedback consistently. • Learn to recognize data quality issues and escalate them appropriately rather than working around them. • Pursue independent skill development between assignments — this role rewards self-directed learners. Delivery • Operate laser scanning equipment (TLS and/or SLAM) under the direction of the Sr. Scan Technician or Scan Tech II. • Conduct yourself professionally on all client sites; follow site-specific protocols, communicate status clearly to supervising staff, and represent NV5 well in all on-site interactions. • Set up and break down equipment safely and efficiently at project sites. • Navigate building interiors using blueprints and wayfinding skills; develop strong spatial awareness in complex environments. • Adapt to changing site conditions and follow direction from senior team members. • Maintain a clean, professional presence on all job sites. • Maintain personal timekeeping and expense documentation accurately and on time. • Care for equipment during transport and field use; report damage or issues immediately. • Communicate status and issues to supervising staff clearly and proactively. Qualifications • Entry-level position — no prior scanning experience required, though it is a plus. • 2- or 4-year degree in architecture, engineering, surveying, construction management, or a related field preferred. • Basic Windows-based PC proficiency required. • Strong spatial awareness and comfort navigating unfamiliar building environments. • Must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle available for travel; this role requires regular travel to project sites. • Physical requirements include extended standing, walking, and the ability to carry and set up equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. • Aptitude or interest in Revit-based BIM modeling noted positively during hiring evaluation. NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities. NV5 provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, amnesty, or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws. NV5 complies with applicable state and local laws governing non-discrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including, but not limited to, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation, and training.
