Summary
The Education Facilitator (PEI) develops and delivers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programming to Indigenous students and communities, primarily in P.E.I. and occasionally across Atlantic Canada. This role supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of engaging, hands-on learning experiences, as well as the effective operation and maintenance of Makerspace equipment. The Education Facilitator fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring all programming is accessible and delivered in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum Development & Program Planning
Work collaboratively with other education team members to support the creation of STEAM curriculum for youth.
Support the development of STEAM programs in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Support the planning and coordination of logistics, materials and delivery needed for educational programming.
Program Delivery & Engagement
Deliver new and ongoing programming to students in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities primarily in P.E.I. and occasionally across Atlantic Canada.
Deliver programming during special events at STEAM PEI.
Deliver programming at the Makerspace for various community-based child and youth programs, which can include camps, clubs, homeschool groups, and after-school programs.
Ensure a friendly and welcoming environment for program participants.
Build relationships with educators, parents, and community members to support program engagement and outreach.
Operations & Safety
Operate and provide regular upkeep to Makerspace equipment, assets and materials.
Ensure safety protocols are followed, particularly when using Makerspace equipment and traveling for program delivery.
Reporting & Organization
Maintain workspace cleanliness and organization, returning tools, equipment, and programming materials to their designated space.
Support periodic reporting as requested by grant deliverables.
Kept accurate records of working hours (e.g. curriculum development, deliveries, driving, admin tasks etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working with children or youth in educational, mentorship, or facilitation roles.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of work experience and education in a related STEAM field is an asset.
School-age Child Care Provider certification or ability to get certified considered an asset.
Ability to adapt to evolving program needs and support team operations as required.
Flexibility to work varied hours, which on occasion can include holidays, evenings, weekends, and extended hours.
Experience with curriculum development and an understanding of provincial foundational outcomes is an asset.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information and present it in ways that are accessible to youth and educators across a variety of learning environments.
Experience operating and maintaining Makerspace equipment, including 3-D printers, laminators, and laser cutters, as well as proficiency with 3-D design software, is an asset.
Comfortable using Learning Management Systems
Access to a reliable personal vehicle and a valid Class 5 driver’s license is required to support travel to program delivery locations; mileage reimbursement is provided.
Must be able to independently lift up to 50 lbs.
