Description

Discover Your Career at Emory University Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community. Description The Gordon Laboratory at Emory University is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Specialist to spearhead experimental studies at the intersection of cancer biology, immunology, and metabolism. The position will focus on cellular and biochemical analyses aimed at understanding how microenvironmental factors influence cancer progression. Primary responsibilities will include experimental coordination, literature review, data analysis, development of new experimental workflows, preparation and presentation of oral and written reports, and support of laboratory operations. About the Gordon Lab The Gordon Lab applies experimental and computational approaches to understand molecular signaling and biochemical pathways, and identify mechanisms that inform therapeutic development. Based in the Emory University Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, our laboratory benefits from close integration with translational and clinical research environments, including access to primary tissue samples and extensive opportunities for collaboration. Through our affiliation with the Pathology Advanced Translational Research Unit (PATRU), we work closely with investigators across pathology, immunology, and cancer biology. Our broader collaborations include partnerships with Georgia Tech in technology and computational method development, as well as connections to therapeutic translation through programs such as the Winship Cancer Institute Discovery and Developmental Therapeutics Program. Our research program spans both academic and industry collaborations, providing exposure to rigorous basic science, translational research, and emerging opportunities at the interface of biology and therapeutic innovation. We strongly believe that the best science emerges from an environment of generous collaboration, supported by a culture of learning, curiosity, and the open sharing of skills and advice. In considering new members of our group, we value a positive attitude, strong evidence of prior success in laboratory settings, careful attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset that contributes positively to team culture. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects in a supportive and intellectually enriching environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. Devises highly specialized research procedures by applying a knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment. Provides input to protocol development. Serves as a technical resource for other research personnel. Analyzes and interprets the results of studies. Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results. Trains research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests. Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures. Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives. May assist in grant and other funding application preparation. Review literature for related research developments and techniques. Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation. Oversees quality assurance of research performed by others. Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and four years of research experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with cellular analysis methods such as flow cytometry, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, ELISA, western blotting, qPCR, or related techniques. Hands-on experience cloning, amplifying, or purifying nucleic acids (e.g. DNA, RNA). Comfort analyzing large-scale quantitative datasets. Mass spectrometry experience (small-molecule, metabolomic, or proteomic analysis). Prior research experience in cancer biology, immunology, or related areas. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or a related field. Foundational training in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Mammalian tissue culture experience. Prior experience with cell-based functional assays (e.g., cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, cytotoxicity, or related assays). NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
