Youth Engagement Advocate (YEA!)
Status: Full-Time and Hourly
Reports To: YEA! Program Coordinator
Schedule of Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., some weekday evenings
Work Location: Primarily onsite and community-based
Mandated Reporter: NO
POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Engagement Advocate (YEA!) is a member of CORA’s Prevention & Community Engagement Team. This role delivers prevention education and youth engagement programming in school and juvenile justice settings while supporting youth through culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches.
The Youth Engagement Advocate facilitates workshops, conducts outreach activities, and provides individualized support to youth participating in prevention programming. The position works collaboratively with schools, probation personnel, community partners, and CORA staff to promote healthy relationships, violence prevention, and youth development.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate prevention education workshops in schools and within the Youth Services Center (YSC), including weekly sessions with incarcerated youth, using engaging and developmentally appropriate content related to healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, communication, and conflict resolution. Provide individual check-ins and supportive engagement with youth participants, including identified high-risk youth at the Youth Services Center. Respond to youth disclosures using trauma-informed practices and provide information regarding CORA services and community resources through established referral processes. Collaborate with school staff, probation personnel, and community partners to support youth engagement and program implementation. Participate in outreach activities, including Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month events, school tabling, presentations, and community engagement efforts. Support parent and caregiver workshops and contribute to community education activities. Assist with program evaluation activities by collecting participation data, surveys, and participant feedback to support reporting and program development. Maintain accurate documentation and comply with confidentiality requirements, agency policies, and applicable reporting procedures. Participate in ongoing professional development related to youth engagement, prevention education, healthy relationships, and trauma-informed practice. Attend CORA team meetings, trainings, supervision sessions, and other required organizational activities. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Education, or a closely related field; or equivalent experience. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Minimum one year of experience working with youth providing direct services in a school or alike setting, youth engagement or curriculum development. Work with at-risk and/or justice-involved populations is strongly preferred. Strong facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities. CORE COMPETENCIES
