The diverse educational initiatives, including our High<br>School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning<br>Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational<br>journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization<br>undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our<br>research, and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning<br>how education is delivered.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><br><span style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219)\">Job Summary</span><br>The Island School is seeking an experienced Paramedic or EMT to join our onsite medical<br>team and help provide first aid, urgent, and emergency medical care to our community<br>members. This position will also work as an aid in coordinating and transporting injured or<br>sick persons to definitive medical care as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience<br>working within a team of medical, mental health and risk management professionals and<br>will carry current qualification as a Paramedic, WEMT, and/or EMT-A.<br>Located on the Island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas, the Island School and Cape Eleuthera<br>Institute (CEI) operate year-round offering educational programs to clients of all ages.<br>Educational programs involve students, following an academic curriculum that involves<br>SCUBA, sailing and kayaking programs along with a rigorous physical activity schedule. In<br>addition, students and staff are actively involved in marine research and education involving<br>corals, turtles, sharks etc.</p>\n<p><br>In coordination with the Wellness Team, the EMT provides education and training for staff<br>and students as well as acute and long-term care for this population ranging in age from<br>newborn to 90, with the largest majority of the patient population being teens. Care is also<br>provided on occasion to the communities of South Eleuthera on a larger scale in conjunction<br>with local physicians, and clinics. Eleuthera is a remote island with limited medical resources.<br>The nature of the care and work we do reflects this challenging yet exciting environment.</p>\n<p><br><span style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219)\">Essential Duties and Responsibilities</span><br>● Works as part of a small medical team that consists of a Paramedic or RN, EMT, and a<br>robust community of WFR and WAFA-trained faculty to oversee the wellness, safety<br>and health management of CEIS students, activities and staff<br>● Ensures quality health services to the CEIS community, including students, staff,<br>interns and wider community members as needed<br>● Responds to emergencies that occur on campus or during off campus activities and<br>leads response efforts, including direct patient care, response coordination, and<br>evacuation<br>● Provides daily first aid, urgent, and emergent medical care needs to the community<br>● Observes, documents, and reports patient conditions/injuries, treatments, and care<br>measures as appropriate</p>\n<p>● Liaise with and keep parents, and other relevant stakeholders informed of students’<br>medical conditions, treatment and future needs<br>● Work with Wellness Center Team to conduct pre-trip medical form review and<br>meetings with parents / guardians of all students<br>● Coordinates with Telemedicine and/or local clinics as needed to provide appropriate<br>care and treatment for patients<br>● Provides education to CEIS community members on safety and health and wellness,<br>through a combination of group in-services, new staff orientation, email<br>communication and individual teaching as needed as well as helping coordinate<br>annual wilderness medicine courses with our outside provider<br>● Leads/assists in site-specific medical and risk management training and education,<br>which may include basic First Aid and CPR training, community wide emergency<br>response scenarios, and skills refreshers<br>● Maintains onsite medical room, equipment, and supply inventory<br>● Conducts bi-weekly checks and maintenance on the School ambulance<br>● Participates in an on-call schedule with other medical personnel for after-hours<br>emergencies<br>● Maintains current licensure and certifications as needed for the position<br>● Semester and Summer Term support:<br>○ Oversee expedition gear inventory and repairs with the support of members of<br>the educational teams; provide recommendations for ordering<br>○ Maintain organization of expedition gear before and after kayak trips<br>● In collaboration with the Director of Risk Management, support organization-wide risk<br>management initiatives including, but not limited to, managing incident data,<br>submitting incident report forms (IRF’s) and updating other key risk management<br>documents<br>● Support Island School educational programming as assigned<br>● Other duties as assigned by your manager</p>\n<p><br><span style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219)\">Schedule</span><br>This is a full-time, contractual position. Your working hours will be five (5) days per week in<br>addition to being part of the weekly medical on call rotation with 1 - 2 other Wellness Center<br>Staff. This role requires a variable, mission driven schedule and will require periods outside of<br>normal working hours. The Island School and its related entities operate year round. Evening<br>and weekend work is required for this position. Schedules for onsite and on-call availability<br>will be coordinated within the medical team as needed for appropriate coverage and time<br>off. Special events will require periods of time outside of normal working hours when staff<br>must be on site for extended periods.
