Status: PRN
Shift: Variable + weekends (8 or 10 hour shifts)
JOB SUMMARY (overview of job): This position provides support for the OR team including but not limited to: infection prevention monitoring and cleaning implementation, safe patient transfer and transport of patients to, from and in the OR and PACU, assists with positioning patient, obtaining and setting up equipment, assisting with room turnovers to ensure infection prevention standards are met, specimen delivery, and other duties as assigned. Must be conscientious about surgical processes, following directions, infection prevention/cleanliness and patient safety.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Preferred six months in health care setting and /or working with patients. The ability to safely and ergonomically move equipment, patients and supplies. The ability to use a telephone, Vocera, and computer keyboard. Proficiency in reading and writing English.
EDUCATION . High school graduate or GED preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY : BLS (Basic Life Support) within 6 months of hire
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to work quickly and efficiently to facilitate a high quality room turnover
Maintain sterile field in the operating room
Follow instruction on cleaning practices and patient safety standards
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Works collaboratively with all care providers and other internal customers.
Transports patients who require single or multiple person transports with appropriate assistance using a wheelchair or gurney, along with accompanying equipment, following organizational and departmental policies.
Transfers and/or assists unit staff in transferring patients to and from beds, gurneys and wheelchairs.
Observes and/or reports unusual clinical signs and/or changes in patient condition immediately to nursing staff.
Ability to work in a high stress environment with high standards for patient safety
Demonstrates knowledge and application of safety related work behaviors to ensure safe job performance and the maintenance of a safe environment as an integral part of the quality of patient care services
Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly work environment
Knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control and universal precaution.
Certified in CPR and able to perform if necessary
Carries Vocera to maintain contact at all times and responds to calls or pages in a timely and professional manner.
Maintains inventory by stocking areas as assigned.
Ability to promote and maintain good customer relations.
Utilizes good body mechanics for safe transportation of patient and equipment.
Must be pleasant, kind and present a favorable professional appearance.
Displays excellent communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and have excellent follow through.
Ability to problem-solve using good communication and people skills.
Performs other duties as assigned by OR Director, Clinical Coordinator, Charge RN or OR team members.
