Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.</li>\n <li>Assist the recovering surgeon in the surgical recovery of deceased donor organs for transplantation</li>\n <li>Recover organs for research</li>\n <li>Communicate effectively with internal and external partners to facilitate the donation process</li>\n <li>Document required clinical information in a clear and concise manner and input perfusion-related information into DonorNet as required</li>\n <li>Package and label organs for transplantation or research</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Perform surgical dissection and preparation of deceased donor kidneys for machine perfusion</li>\n <li>Monitor deceased donor kidneys during hypothermic machine perfusion</li>\n <li>Obtain process, stain, and scan kidney biopsies for telepathology</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives, meetings, educational activities and required training as assigned </li>\n <li>Participate in training and mentoring of new staff as assigned</li>\n <li>Other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Education and Training Required </strong></p>\n<p>The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Requires a combination of education and experience with a surgical focus and a minimum of one year of experience in an operating room environment and with aseptic/sterile technique execution</li>\n <li>Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist, Surgical Technologist or First Assist program preferred or previous experience in Organ Preservation and Transplant</li>\n <li>Other candidates may be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of management</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Experience and Skills Required </strong></p>\n<p>The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job.</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to achieve and maintain competency in clinical and technical skills required to assist in the surgical recovery of organs for transplant, recover organs for research, and facilitate organ and tissue donation and transplantation</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to learn and become proficient in the calibration, operation, troubleshooting and monitoring of equipment necessary for machine perfusion and OR equipment</li>\n <li>Ability to learn and become proficient in the set-up, maintenance and disinfection and sterilization of the perfusion laboratory and surgical instruments ensuring machine perfusion is performed under sterile conditions</li>\n <li>Experience working with and understanding sterile technique</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to communicate the organ/tissue donation process to hospital staff</li>\n <li>Ability to function autonomously, establish priorities, and work effectively with an external team</li>\n <li>Ability to coordinate the activities for self and others in an environment where priorities change quickly</li>\n</ul>\n<ul>\n <li>Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills including effective written correspondence, active listening, and professional customer service response at all levels</li>\n <li>Basic computer skills</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Physical Demands </strong></p>\n<p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
