Description
Under minimal supervision, provides direct nursing care to patients in a healthcare facility. Responsible for preparing equipment and aiding physician during treatment and examination of patients. May lead or mentor lower level team members.
Responsibilities
Within the South Texas Center for Bleeding Disorders, demonstrates advanced skills in the delivery of physical examinations of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implementing treatment plan; administers medications and injections as needed.
Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly; works closely with assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests are scheduled accordingly.
Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.
Assists with planning and communicating hospital admissions as needed with appropriate clinical team members.
Follows-up on diagnostic tests, labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.
Consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team, schedules follow up appointments as well as weekly check appointments.
Ensures that patients have access to specialty appointments as per medical plan.
Educates patients and family members on the disease and therapeutic processes.
Educates staff, peers, and community on bleeding and clotting disorders, through personal, classroom, and/or conference platforms.
Assists with outreach clinical operations.
Educates patients and family members.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrates the ability to function within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Demonstrates the ability to support the mission, vision and patient promise throughout all interactions. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally. Demonstrates analytical thinking – this role requires analyzing information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.Functions within the required nursing process as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
