Over 10,000 homeless individuals are cared for by Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program each year. Our clinicians, case managers, and behavioral health professionals work in more than 30 locations to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable—and most resilient—citizens.

Hours: Full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, flexible to cover evenings and weekends

This Patient Benefits Coordinator II (PBC II) will be responsible for registering new patients and creating and checking-in appointments at multiple clinic sites. This position will provide front desk coverage at various shelter sites throughout the city and will be responsible for helping patients obtain copies of documentation and providing other related patient benefits assistance. In this role, the PBC II will play a crucial part in providing accurate registration of patient insurance eligibility and submission of insurance pre-authorizations.
Responsibilities: Utilize the EPIC system to register new patients, make appointments, and check in patients at multiple clinic sites, located in shelters across the Greater Boston area Accurately complete and appropriately process health insurance applications, including MassHealth, for patients at various BHCHP program sites Work closely with the Director of Patient Finance to implement processes and procedures for enrolling and maintaining patients in the appropriate medical programs Review insurance eligibility on all patients presenting for scheduled appointments on a walk-in basis (outpatient clinics) or upon admission (respite facility) to provide patient benefits assistance and process required documentation in a timely manner Process EPIC work queues by manually correcting and resubmitting any missing or mismatched insurance information Create, delete, and amend provider schedules in EPIC, ensuring both simple and complicated requests are updated in a timely manner Create and run daily reports related to entitlement benefits programs to prevent billing errors Update benefits information in the registration records in EPIC so that each patient’s information is accurate and up to date Submit and follow up on Durable Medical Equipment requests from providers to ensure timely delivery to patients Cover for other benefits and clinic front desk staff on an as-needed basis Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or have attained the requisite skills from prior work experience preferred ( 1-2 years in a patient benefits or health insurance support capacity) 2 years of experience in a clinical environment preferred Familiarity with EPIC (electronic medical record) preferred Knowledge of health insurance and entitlement benefits programs preferred Bi-lingual proficiency in Spanish/English or Haitian Creole/English preferred Ability to work with minimal supervision successfully Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite including Excel Compensation and Benefits: The compensation increases based on years of experience and ranges from $23.00 -$35.60 per hour. This position will provide front desk coverage at various shelter sites throughout the city and will be responsible for helping patients obtain copies of documentation and providing other related patient benefits assistance. In this role, the PBC II will play a crucial part in providing accurate registration of patient insurance eligibility and submission of insurance pre-authorizations.</span></span></span><br><br><span patients at multiple clinic sites, located in shelters across the Greater Boston area </span></span></span></span></li><li><span style=\"font-size:11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height:normal;\"><span><span style=\"font-family:Calibri, sans-serif;\">Accurately complete and appropriately process health insurance applications, including MassHealth, for patients at with the Director of Patient Finance to implement processes and procedures for enrolling and maintaining patients in the appropriate medical programs</span></span></span></span></li><li><span
