Description

Please note: Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and rank at the time of appointment. Overview Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is a multidenominational, evangelical graduate school committed to equipping Christian leaders to think theologically, engage globally, and live biblically. With nearly 1,400 students across campuses in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, and online, Gordon-Conwell’s student body represents more than eighty-five denominations and fifty countries. The seminary offers master’s and doctoral programs—delivered in English, Spanish, and Portuguese—that combine academic excellence, spiritual formation, and a deep commitment to Scripture. Its 12,000 alumni serve Christ through ministry in the church, the academy, and the workplace. Gordon-Conwell is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools, the New England Commission of Higher Education, and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. Position Summary Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (www.gordonconwell.edu) announces a faculty position in the area of preaching with the primary location at the Hamilton campus. This position is for any rank from Assistant up to the Haddon Robinson Chair of Preaching. This is a continuing-status track appointment with an expected start date of July 1, 2026, or as soon as possible after the position is filled. The successful candidate for this position should have extensive experience in the pulpit as well as a track record of excellence in classroom teaching and effectiveness in preparing students for preaching and pastoral ministry in the ‘Big Idea’ tradition of Haddon Robinson. The candidate should be a gifted researcher and have several significant contributions to theologically related scholarship and/or leadership in the life of the church. This position entails considerable leadership outside the classroom in the ongoing task of forming students for the preaching call. The professor holding this position will be expected to participate in the life of the seminary through weekly Chapel worship and advising, mentoring and discipleship activities with students. The ideal candidate will be skilled at envisioning and organizing programs and continuing education events for alumni pastors. The professor’s teaching responsibilities will be primarily at the Hamilton Campus (in-person and digital), with an expectation that the professor will teach at our Charlotte campus annually. The professor will be expected to teach Masters level courses as well as supervise and teach in the Doctor of Ministry program as well as our anticipated PhD program. Life Together (Hamilton Campus) The Hamilton Campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary is invested in a “Life Together” ethos of education that prioritizes presence, intentionality, and relationships. Faculty and students are encouraged to engage in rhythms of prayer, worship, and fellowship, as well as intentional discipleship relationships.[1] The ideal candidate will be committed to investing time in personal mentoring/discipleship of our students. Academic Experience The person seeking this position should hold a graduate degree in theology (MDiv preferable) and a Ph.D. in a subject relevant to homiletics. Scholarly participation in the field through publication is expected. Experience with theological education and pastoral ministry is very important. Personal Profile The applicant should be a person of Christian character and be at home in the thoughtful evangelical ethos of Gordon-Conwell. The person should be manifestly collegial in their relationships, demonstrating an ability to work well with colleagues who represent various ecclesial traditions and ethnic backgrounds. The person should be attentive to different cultures, being able to serve both our local New England context and our growing international student body. The person should be committed to academic excellence, to the spiritual nurturing of students, and to the Church. Persons of various ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including, women, international scholars, and individuals with bilingual abilities. Classroom Teaching and Other Responsibilities The applicant must demonstrate willingness to teach in both in-person and digital modalities. Training in specific digital tools is provided. The expectation is that the professor’s teaching load will be six courses a year in preaching (depending on rank). The precise teaching responsibilities will include required courses as well as electives based on the particular research and experiential strengths of the professor. Theological Commitments Faculty members must concur with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary Mission Statement and Commentary, Community Life Statement and must indicate agreement annually with the school’s Statement of Faith.
