Description

Welcome to a commitment to sustainable development you can relate to. Welcome to people who like people, to brilliant minds, tomorrow’s visionaries, challenge seekers, collaborators, and those with an entrepreneurial spirit in their DNA. At CIMA+, you’ll find a place where your ideas and perspectives are welcomed and encouraged. In both the field and at the office, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to reach your full potential in an environment that’s engineered for people. At CIMA+, we care about our people and make sure that they feel valued, appreciated, and part of the team. You could even become a shareholder in the company. At CIMA+, we give you the freedom and flexibility to manage your work on your own terms and the opportunity to work on projects you can relate to. Welcome to CIMA+ About the Opportunity Over the past several years, B&A has established a leading urban design practice that is both distinct and complementary within Western Canada’s consulting landscape. What started as a small, hands-on studio has evolved into a recognized design leader, capable of delivering creative, practical, and integrated design solutions across scales - from community and neighbourhood planning to site-specific design, redevelopment, and public realm projects. Our studio works collaboratively with B&A’s planning, engagement, visualization, and GIS teams, while also taking on standalone design commissions that showcase our creativity, technical rigour, and passion for place. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Senior Urban Designer to join our Calgary-based studio. This is an exciting opportunity for a design professional who thrives on collaboration, creativity, and the ability to bring ideas to life - someone who can lead complex projects, inspire clients, mentor emerging designers, and contribute meaningfully to the evolution of the practice. What You’ll Do As an Urban Designer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the next phase of B&A’s design studio. Working closely with our interdisciplinary teams and clients, you’ll: Lead the design and delivery of projects ranging from new communities, redevelopment plans, and mixed-use sites to master plans and urban realm design. Manage multidisciplinary teams, ensuring projects are delivered with creativity, quality, and care - on time, on budget, and aligned with client objectives. Develop and nurture relationships with clients, municipalities, developers, and other professionals, helping grow our portfolio of work through reputation and trust. Mentor and support junior staff, fostering an environment of learning, collaboration, and design excellence. Champion design innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in every project. Contribute to business development efforts, including proposals, competitions, and studio promotion initiatives. Collaborate across B&A and CIMA+, connecting design with engineering, infrastructure, and environmental disciplines to deliver truly integrated solutions. What You Bring A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years professional experience in urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture, including experience leading projects and managing teams. Ideally a portfolio that you can share to demonstrate projects you have worked on. A strong understanding of urban design principles, planning frameworks, and development processes in Alberta and Western Canada. Exceptional conceptual and graphic design skills, with proficiency in tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, GIS, Revit, and/or other design software. Strong communication and presentation skills — both visual and verbal — with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and compellingly to diverse audiences. A collaborative mindset, entrepreneurial spirit, and passion for creating vibrant, sustainable, and enduring places. Who You Are You are a passionate designer who thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. You balance creativity with pragmatism and have a deep understanding of how thoughtful design can shape better communities. You are energized by collaboration with clients, colleagues, and communities, and you’re equally comfortable sketching a concept, leading a workshop, or presenting to a city council. You’re motivated to help grow and strengthen the studio’s next generation of designers, while continuing to challenge yourself and the team to elevate the design conversation. Why Join B&A Studios B&A Studios is one of Western Canada’s leading planning, design, and engagement consultancies, now part of the CIMA+ family - one of Canada’s largest privately-owned engineering and consulting firms. Together, we offer an unmatched multidisciplinary platform that connects urban design, planning, engineering, and engagement under one collaborative network. Joining our team means: Working in a studio environment that values creativity, inclusivity, and curiosity. Collaborating with professionals across Canada on projects that shape communities of all sizes. Contributing to projects that matter — from transformative urban redevelopments to forward-thinking greenfield communities. Having the opportunity to lead, influence, and grow in a design studio that is entering its next exciting phase of evolution. Enjoying a workplace that offers flexible work arrangements, competitive compensation, professional development support, and a culture rooted in collaboration and respect. At CIMA+, we recognize the richness and diversity of each individual’s experience. Compensation for this role is therefore based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, while maintaining internal equity. The level and associated salary may vary depending on the candidate’s profile. CIMA+ uses an applicant tracking system that includes an automated match score feature. However, this score is not used to screen, assess, or select applicants. All hiring decisions are made through human review. Ethics and integrity are fundamental values at CIMA+. That is why we are committed to ensuring equal access to resources and opportunities for candidates, regardless of their identity (race, ethnicity, colour, religion, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socio-economic status or background, etc.). In keeping with the principles of employment equity, we encourage all applications, including, but not limited to, those from women, Indigenous people, people with disabilities and visible minorities. We also encourage candidates to complete the self-identification form when applying for employment. Accommodations are available on request. Your Business Partner will process your request.
