    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<div>\n Assists pathologists with post mortem examinations, organ preparation, dissection, and\n</div>\n<div>\n evisceration. Works with frozen section tissue and intraoperative consultation requests. Assists\n</div>\n<div>\n in instructing residents and fellows on procedural and technical skills related to surgical\n</div>\n<div>\n pathology.\n</div>\n<div>\n <br/>\n</div>\n<div>\n <b><u>Responsibilities:</u></b>\n</div>\n<div>\n <ul>\n  <li>Assists in the training of surgical pathology and autopsy techniques and</li>\n  <li>procedures to residents and fellows; assists in training of surgical pathology</li>\n  <li>specimens inclusive of gross dissection, reporting, and submission for histologic</li>\n  <li>processing to pathology residents and fellows; assists in training pathology</li>\n  <li>residents and fellows with frozen section procedures and special procedures;</li>\n  <li>assists in training pathology residents and fellows with accurate block selection and</li>\n  <li>appropriate sampling of lesions and pertinent normal/negative findings.</li>\n  <li>Assists in training pathology residents and fellows with selecting appropriate</li>\n  <li>ancillary testing and special autopsy procedures; assists in training pathology</li>\n  <li>residents and fellows with correlation between preliminary and final autopsy</li>\n  <li>diagnosis; educates Residents/Fellows utilizing departmental case presentations</li>\n  <li>and conferences; performs professional duties associated with the preparation and</li>\n  <li>performance of autopsy pathology and post-mortem examination.</li>\n  <li>Assists in the performance of an autopsy examination by ascertaining proper legal</li>\n  <li>authorization; obtains and reviews the patient's chart and other clinical data and</li>\n  <li>studies; initiates procedures when resolving problems related to proper clearance</li>\n  <li>and consent for autopsy; confers with the pathologists to identify special</li>\n  <li>techniques or procedures that are required (immunopathology, electron</li>\n  <li>microscopy).</li>\n  <li>Participates in post-mortem prosection, evisceration and subsequent dissection;</li>\n  <li>obtains specimens for biological and toxicologic analysis; performs specialized</li>\n  <li>procedures including frozen sections, histological procedures and special</li>\n  <li>procedures; prepares tissue for frozen sections utilizing histologic procedures.</li>\n  <li>Participates in conduct of frozen section examinations; selects and preserves</li>\n  <li>tissue for special studies to include immunopathology, electron microscopy, special</li>\n  <li>stains and flow cytometry; prepares and processes frozen section tissue in a timely</li>\n  <li>manner consistent with standards.</li>\n  <li>Prepares surgical pathology specimens; ensures appropriate specimen</li>\n  <li>accessioning, pertinent clinical information and studies; dissects surgical</li>\n  <li>specimens while describing the gross anatomic features and ensuring proper</li>\n  <li>submission for histologic processing.</li>\n  <li>Obtains and submits specimens for additional ancillary procedures</li>\n  <li>(immunostaining, flow cytometry); dissects and processes frozen section</li>\n  <li>specimens for evaluation by an Attending Pathologist; assists Pathologists with</li>\n  <li>eviscerations and obtaining appropriate sections for microscopic examination.</li>\n  <li>Photographs all pertinent gross specimens and microscopic slides; serves as</li>\n  <li>liaison between the laboratory and staff physicians, lab sections and department</li>\n  <li>heads; collaborates with hospital physicians, lab sections and department heads</li>\n  <li>on pertinent matters in order to maintain quality service.</li>\n  <li>Assists in the conduct of quality assurance within Pathology; monitors safety</li>\n  <li>compliance; monitors quality/assurance activities and records.</li>\n  <li>Performs related duties as required.
