Description

FUNCTION: Create a professional and pleasant atmosphere for customers; ensure smooth operation of register procedures, policies, and paperwork; and supervise the cashier staff. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Must have complete understanding of register procedures, policies, and paperwork. 2. Trains all cashiers on the register and procedures; coordinates training sessions for each new cashier on a register. Teaches proper policy and procedure. 3. Supervises the closing of all registers at the end of business hours, as scheduled. 4. Operates a register on an as needed basis. 5. Balances closeout sheets each morning. 6. Makes office corrections on registers, as directed. 7. Performs cash pulls from registers in a timely manner; calculates bank deposits accurately. 8. Supervises cashiers in the handling of sales transactions. 9. Sees that all telephones are promptly answered politely with a greeting; connects callers with the proper department or ensures that a message is taken. 10.Ensures friendly customer service from the cashier staff. 11. Approves checks. 12. Promotes the opening of charge accounts and gift card purchases. 13. Makes proper documentation on checks received for payment. Ensures company policy is followed on all checks received. Ensures all cashiers are trained on check policy. 14. Collects correct information when processing all charge purchases. 15. Handles all register procedures in a courteous and friendly manner. 16. Manages the customer service area. 17. Acts in supervisory capacity as authorized by the store manager. 18. Aids the management in the maintenance of the in store employee records, if assigned. 19. Supervises the proper removal of all security devices. 20. Controls the stock of register and office supplies. 21. Initial training and follow up training of cashier staff. 22. Responsible for maintaining an accurate daily coupon count sheet for reporting to proper company dept. head. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School Degree or Equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Experience at above average performance as a cashier. TRAITS: Pleasant, congenial, accurate, efficient, flexible, motivated, professional appearance, energetic, motivated, inquisitive, sense of urgency, and an eye for detail. Ability to organize, offers pleasant mannerisms and telephone etiquette, good mathematical skills, able to instruct and follow instructions in a timely manner and is trustworthy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: The physical demands listed are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job: Required to stand for specified time periods, walk, talk or hear, use hands and have ability to reach overhead. Regular lifting or moving of up to 5lbs, possible up to 25lbs. Requires bending, stooping, and limited ability to climb stairs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus and ability to write, count, and read required shipping/ company paperwork.
