Description
The Transporter plays an essential role with youth placed in care at Elmcrest. The Residential Transporter is charged with providing the safe, timely and accurate transport of youth to a variety of community based appointments and activities. As with the direct care position (Youth Development Professional), The Residential Transporter utilizes a child-centered approach and makes every effort to work in the best interest of children while facilitating the individual and environmental conditions that are necessary to create change.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Transport youth and their families to a variety of destinations including but not limited to; school, college, medical appointments, employment (i.e. drop off to work, pick up from work), family visits, community outings, various OCFS youth forums, etc.
Follow and obey all local and New York State vehicle and traffic laws both professionally in the workplace, and personally outside of work as a clean driver’s license is required for this position.
Maintain Agency vehicle(s) in proper condition including cleanliness, and the reporting of all vehicle issues, needed repairs, accidents, etc.
Foster and support an environment by which each youth can be successful in making his/her own unique behavioral, emotional, intellectual, and developmental gains by:
Interacting and intervening with residents in accordance with their Individualized Crisis Management Plan, if applicable.
Maintain a physically and emotionally safe & supportive environment by:
Developing and providing a safe and secure physical environment for each resident.
Providing supervision of residents as it pertains to the supervision policy and expectations of the program.
Using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention de-escalation techniques (proximity, time and space, caring gestures, etc.).
Demonstrating appropriate social boundaries.
Perform other essential functions of the job including:
Complete all assigned paperwork (Incident reports, Vehicle logs, etc.) accurately and on time.
Communicate all concerns involving youth including reporting incidents of child maltreatment, neglect, and/or abuse.
Follow all agency and department policies & procedures.
Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED. College and experience working with youth preferred.
Driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Self-aware. Enjoys, and is comfortable with interacting with children.
Able to relate to a dynamic environment. Flexible and able to problem-solve as unanticipated challenges present themselves.
Must be able to adjust to flexible work schedules.
Adept with various computer skills
Must understand and demonstrate the principles of care to which Elmcrest ascribes and trains.
